Historical records indicate that the temple’s origins date back 1,400 years to the later period of the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534), although significant reconstructions occurred in subsequent dynasties. The temple is constructed almost entirely of wood, featuring over 40 halls of varying sizes that house more than 80 sculptures. The Hanging Temple is renowned for its unique and remarkable architectural engineering, characterized by its gravity-defying location, distinctive construction, and well-balanced structure. Visitors have the option to climb into the temple to explore its interior and enjoy the cliffside views, or simply admire and photograph it from the ground. The tour includes tickets for temple entry, and the visit is extended to allow ample time for exploration.
- Yungang Grottoes - Located at the southern base of Wuzhou Mountain, 16 kilometers west of Datong City, the Yungang Grottoes are carved into the mountain and stretch approximately one kilometer from east to west. The 45 caves of the Yungang Grottoes contain around 254 niches with about 51,000 statues, representing a classical masterpiece of early Chinese Buddhist art. In March 1961, the Yungang Grottoes were designated as one of the first Key Cultural Relics under the protection of the Chinese State Council. In December 2001, they were recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In May 2007, the grottoes were declared a National AAAAA-grade Tourism Attraction of China. The 2010 expansion project transformed the Yungang Grottoes into a world-renowned tourist destination, combining a royal ancient Buddhist cave temple, a royal garden, and a complex of ancient architecture.

The Yungang Grottoes were designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001, celebrated as a “masterpiece of early Chinese Buddhist cave art” and recognized for their influence on the evolution of Buddhist art in China and East Asia. The Hanging Temple, built during the late Northern Wei Dynasty, boasts a history spanning over 1500 years. This temple is famous for its extraordinary location, perched on the cliffs of Hengshan Mountain approximately 50 meters above the ground. Numerous scenes in the recently popular game “Black Myth” are inspired by these two sites. The tour will share the historical narratives and significance of the sculptures and murals found here. Participants will be transported back to that historical era and immersed in the game to experience these ancient landmarks. A comfortable air-conditioned vehicle will be provided based on the group size. The tour guides are local experts fluent in English or French, offering detailed insights into the attractions.
