- The Dazu Rock Carvings - Begin your journey with a pickup from your Chengdu hotel and transfer to the train station. After approximately one hour, you will arrive in Dazu. With an English-speaking guide, marvel at the incredible carvings that boast a history of over 1,200 years. The Dazu rock carvings are the best-preserved among all Chinese grottoes, with most caves and statues remaining largely undamaged. This series of Chinese religious sculptures and carvings dates back to the 7th century and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its outstanding artistic quality, vast number, and diverse subject matter. The sculptures illustrate Buddhist, Confucian, and Taoist beliefs and are distributed across 75 protected sites in the region, with the most renowned being Baodingshan. There are over 50,000 Buddhist, Taoist, and Confucian rock carvings and 100,000 characters of inscriptions scattered throughout Dazu. After your visit, return to the train station and head back to Chengdu.
