Highlights
  • Jewel Cave - Fully-guided tours showcase the breathtaking magnitude of Jewel Cave. You will see towering crystal creations that have taken thousands of years to form, and intricate decorations stretching and suspended across the ceiling, like vines and dancing cobwebs. From stalagmites to flowstone, shawls, helictites and even ‘cave coral’; this cave tour reveals the most amazing variety of cave formations or ‘speleothems’.

Once you see the ‘natural entrance’ to this cave, the means of entry for the intrepid cave explorers of the 1950’s, you will appreciate the incredible task they faced in opening up this spectacular cave to the public.  You’ll also hear stories of the now-extinct ‘Tasmanian Tigers’ that fell into the cave and met a dark and lonely fate.

At the end of your tour, your awe-inspiring crystal journey is perfectly complemented with the option of the self-guided ‘Karri Walk’ through the towering forest giants, and viewing the ‘natural entrance’ from above the cave.

The Jewel Cave Centre is complete with interpretive area, retail and café facilities.

Amazing 🤩 Experience at Jewel Cave - Me and my wife visited the Jewel cave on the 28th August 2024 and It was an amazing experience. We had a tour guide named Garry and he made the tour exceptionally great. He was so kind and very humble throughout the tour answered all our questions with a great spirit even though it was last tour of the day. It’s always the tour guides who make the tour memorable and Garry did that 100%. Thank you Garry and the Jewel cave management for this unbelievable experience. Cheers, Valentina and Ram.

Worth the climb - Wow. A very pretty cave. Highly recommend this cave. Thanks Teddy for your guidance. Lots of steps into cave (320 straight down) So coming back up is a slow haul. But my wife isn't very fit and slowly managed the climb back up. It's a cave really worth seeing

Amazing - Fantastic tour, well organised, informative. Lasts about an hour, we were led through three large chambers. The path is based on a wooden pathway with a steel handrail. Lighting on the path is good. Those with mobility issues or breathing problems will find the large number of stairs, many quite steep, a challenge. Some people on our group were clearly out of breath by the time they excited the caves. It is worth discussing this aspect with the staff on the front desk. Having said this it was the most impressive cave we have ever been in. The formations are stunning. As an interesting experience the guide asked the group if they were comfortable with the lights being turned off : this resulted in us standing in total darkness for 30 seconds. A top tour, well worth it.

Jewel Cave - This cave is definitely the 'jewel' of all the caves we visited. Lots of steps but had lots of viewing stops along the way.

Highly recommend this for fit people - The whole family thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Jewel Cave. There are a lot of stairs, and one member of our group elected not to proceed once at the first landing. We went through several sections of the cave and - while there was a lot to take in - we didn’t feel rushed. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. The only negative is that flash photography is allowed. It interrupted longer exposure photos and was generally pretty annoying.
