Highlights
  • Delos - We first visit the Theater district, to see ancient houses, shops, workshops, the theater, and the huge public water cistern; we admire the almost perfect sanitary system of the town, as well as some nice mosaic floors.
  • Delos - Next, we proceed to the area of the temples to discover the ruins of Apollo’s temple, and marvel at the remains of his gigantic statue.
From there we walk to the slave market (Delos became super rich thanks to the slave trade!)
We’ll check the Sacred Lake, the exact spot where according to the mythology Apollo was born, and the adjacent Terrace of the Lions, a series of marble lions, supposed to be the guardians of Apollo’s birth place.
We also see the Stoa of Philip V, the Propylaea, the ruins of Leto’s temple (the mother of Apollo).
  • Mykonos Town - We return to Mykonos, to visit its monuments and landmarks: the Windmills, Little Venice, the iconic Paraportiani church, the Town Hall, the fish market, the monument of Lady Mando (the local heroine), the private chapel of Saint George, the shopping area, and more.

Additional Information

We journey to Delos, the isle revered as the birthplace of the deity Apollo in Greek lore. Presently, Delos is christened as ‘the Hellenic Pompeii’ following its devastation by pirates in 69 BCE which led to its enduring desertion. We explore residencies, marketplaces, art studios, holy places, temples, the amphitheatre, the slave mart, the Lions’ Terrace and more.

We undertake an all-encompassing exploration of Mykonos’ Old town, admiring its historic sights and landmarks: the wind-powered mills, the quaint Little Venice, the renowned Paraportiani ecclesiastical structure, the Municipal Building, the seafood market, Mando plaza, the secluded chapel of St. Nicolas, the retail sector and so forth.

Amazing tour - We couldn’t have chosen a better tour to Delos Island, Nicolás was very professional and knowledgeable, he gave us the needed information and at the end of the tour sent us his book about Delos Island, while in the tour not only he explained everything but also took us to some very important spots that no other guide went to, could really appreciate that, I would recommend this tour to anyone interested about the Delos Island history.

Very educational and informative. Perfect for history lovers! - Such a fantastic tour and guide! A driver picked us up at the port and delivered us directly to Mykonos town and our guide. He took us on a nice stroll through the town and headed to the Delos boat where he already had our tickets. Once we got to Delos we walked the whole thing! Our guide was rich with knowledge and knew everything about the buildings, the society, and more! Every question we had was answered. If you have any interest in history or ancient architecture this is for you. It sat right at the level of Pompeii and the Acropolis for our group! The walk through Mykonos was super informative and we left feeling like we understood the town very well. 100% recommend!
