The city was established along the Myros River, also known as Demre Çay, in the fertile alluvial plain between the Taurus Alaca Mountains, the Massikytos range, and the Aegean Sea.

• Kekova Island - The sunken city of Kekova, also known as Caravola, is an island near Demre, the Lycian town of Myra. It is part of the Antalya Province today, located across from the villages of Kaleköy, the ancient city of Simena, and Üçağız, the ancient Teimioussa. Kekova covers an area of 4.5 km² and is uninhabited.
