Discover the winter wonders of Demre, where cool, cloudy days set the stage for exploring ancient ruins and sunken cities. With a mix of history and adventure, this is the perfect escape for those seeking a unique winter experience.
Embracing the Cool Mystique of Demre
As November draws to a close, Demre, a hidden gem nestled 150km west of Antalya, unveils its winter wonders. The crisp morning air, with temperatures hovering around 49.7°F, invites you to embark on a journey through time and history. The day begins with a clear sky, perfect for a morning Kekova Boat Tour adventure. This tour, available from 8:30 AM to 6:30 PM, promises a captivating exploration of the ancient Myra Antik Kenti, the revered Church of St. Nicholas, and the enigmatic Kekova Island.
As you set sail, the sun casts a golden hue over the waters, illuminating the submerged city of Kekova. The gentle breeze, with gusts up to 5.1 mph, whispers tales of ancient civilizations. The tour offers a unique blend of history and nature, with a chance to witness the remnants of a bygone era. A recent review from May 2024 captures the essence of this experience:
Had a lot of fun - Before the trip, I was concerned about communication, but everything went smoothly. We had a freelancer guide who told us a lot of interesting facts about history, regulations in Türkiye, etc., and was quite realistic about history and religions, even made comparisons to other parts of the world. I had a lot of fun! My boyfriend, who was not interested in this trip and whined the whole day before, had a lot of fun too, got even some facts that he can use in arguments in the future (yes, it’s his favorite pastime). So all together, it was worth the $$$. (Reviewed at: 2024-05-30)
The Allure of Overcast Adventures
As the calendar flips to December 1st, the weather takes on a more somber tone, with overcast skies and temperatures feeling like 55.6°F. This is the perfect backdrop for a Sunken City Tour from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The journey begins with a scenic drive to Myra, where the legend of St. Nicholas was born. The high humidity of 81.2% adds a chill to the air, enhancing the mystique of the ancient rock tombs and the Church of St. Nicholas.
The boat ride to the sunken city of Kekova is a highlight, offering a glimpse into a world submerged beneath the waves. The moderate winds, with gusts up to 12 mph, create a sense of adventure as you navigate the waters. A review from December 2022 encapsulates the thrill of this journey:
Loved the Sunken city tour - The boat tour was amazing, seeing the Sunken city was absolutely worth it. We also visited the ancient Myra Rock tombs and Saint Nicholas church. (Reviewed at: 2022-12-15)

The reviews speak for themselves, capturing the essence of this enchanting region:
Interesting and beautiful - Tried to book this tour through Tripadvisor with various providers with no success. Contacted U Can Travel directly and they were most helpful via WhatsApp. Was picked up by a friendly bus driver at the hotel and drove to the old town to pick up the rest of the tour participants. We met our very friendly, knowledgeable, and humorous guide. He spoke English, Russian, Turkish, and German. Drive to Demre (with a stop on the way) where we visited the tombs, then St Nicholas church and then the sunken city of Kekova (boat). The tour was interesting, the bus comfortable (but a long drive - 2 hours either way) and the boat ride very beautiful. Take a swimsuit and towel. Would recommend but it’s a long day.
