Day trip to Nusa Penida - It was a really fun day! We started off with snorkelling at 4 different spots and were lucky enough to spot a turtle and many fish. Our tour guide Ben brought us around to see the beautiful beaches and views that the island had to offer. He was experienced at navigating the bumpy roads and lunch was also delicious. Thank you for the day 😁

Nusa Penida great tour - We went to 3 different locations on Nusa Penida. We had lunch at a lovely restaurant after the 2nd location. Keliking Beach was our favourite. Kadek, The driver and tour guide was nice and a good driver, he takes awesome photos too. The roads on the island are very rugged - feels like 4WD’ing 90% of the time - very fun!

The tour guide was... - The tour guide was rushing us from one experience to the other and I was not happy about it. He seemed disinterested in providing a tour experience

Transportation was terrible and a waste of time - The view of the island from the cliff was beautiful as was the beach However the amount of time it took to drive there, and the rocky boat ride was not worth it

instagram vs reality - this was truly just an instagram tour and the biggest example in my life of instagram vs reality. We spent the entire day just be shuffled and rushed between the main viewing spots on the island. The traffic between the spots was insane and our driver drove like a madman (nearly driving us off a cliff on these unpaved roads). Once we arrived to each spot we were rushed to the views, which were crowded as all hell, grabbed a couple quick photos and were immediately taken back to the vans. We spent more time in the van than enjoying the island. The whole experience was incredible rushed, crowded and just generally unpleasant. I expected more time to enjoy the beach but we weren’t supposed to do any of that - we opted not to go to the last location so we could actually spend time swimming at crystal bay (which was the best decision of the day). I’d highly recommend a snorkeling tour or anything on the water instead.

I don't recommend this tour - do it yourself instead! - If i had my time again, I would: 1. Book my own grab/gojek/taxi car to Sanur harbour the afternoon before visiting the sites because from most locations on mainland Bali, Sanur Harbour is an hour+ drive away so with this tour I was picked up at 7:15 am and the 4-5+ hours of travel time throughout the day majorly detract from the wonder and awe (and pictures, if that's your motive for visiting) that you experience. 2. Catch a ferry or boat across to the island myself. The trip across to the island is about an hour long and waiting at the harbour with a HUGE crowd of other tourists while loud music is thumping at 8:30 am in the morning and when you return back to the harbour at ~6pm after a long, tiring day, is NOT (my ideal of) fun. 3. Stay at a homestay or guesthouse on the island - or if you have a larger budget, book somewhere more upscale. 4. Hire a local driver or bike on the island. The island roads are narrow and under-developed. Be prepared for bumpier and more precarious rides than on mainland Bali. 5. Then visit the 4x sites we visited on this tour on my own, starting from 8 am or so to avoid the crowds (our tour group and other boats landed on the island mid-morning so we were at the first two sites between 10:30-12:30pm.) This way you could not only avoid the crowds and enjoy slightly cooler temperatures but you could also take your time at each site and even do the (seemingly precarious but from what I can tell, worthwhile) trek down to the beach at Kelingking and/or swim at Angels billabong. The 3x locations (4x sites we visited) were: - Angel's Billabong and Broken Beach (the natural archway in the ocean) - both of these are at the same location: Both stunning AND, if you're from Australia and are a nature-enthusiast, you have likely seen similar sites (e.g., Great Ocean Road and the Royal National Park). - Kelingking Beach: MAGNIFICENT but overrun with tourists vying for pictures which detracts from the experience of just soaking in the beauty, if attending at mid-morning. - Crystal Bay Beach. This is a nice beach but could be skipped in my opinion as there are just as beautiful beaches on mainland Bali /elsewhere (e.g., Gunung Payung, Melasti). I would check out Tembeling beach and natural pools if given the opportunity to visit Penida again. Our guide Radi/Raji? didn't speak english so we could hardly get any scheduling information from him let alone any sort of information about each site or the island itself. There was literally no guidance for which boat to get onto at each harbour, nor organisation of where the group should meet back up after exploring each site. It seemed to me that the drivers/guides are incentivised to take pictures of each tourist since whenever we got to each site, Radi/Raji would ask if i wanted my picture taken immediately and you could see the lengths that each driver/guide went to to take pictures of each member of their group (climbing on trees and yelling at other tourists to get out of the picture etc.) Radi/Raji was an amazing driver! He knew his way around the island, he was calm and he had a special parking spot at Angel Billabong. The restaurant this company organise for you is TERRIBLE. It's called DWW. Their menu is basically 2 soups/curries, 4-5 rice dishes and 3-5 noodle dishes. With the rice and noodle dishes, you mostly get a plate of noodles/rice with hardly any other ingredients - one of the ladies in my group didn't touch her noodles because well, there were no other ingredients in it! Additionally, the restaurant had only 4x drinks on offer - 2 teas (iced), water, and an orange cordial. It was dirty, the staff seemed unhappy, it smelled and the toilets were disgusting. Smile Nusa Penida have acknowledged other reviewers comments about this but still have not chosen to change the restaurant they use. If, against my recommendation, you still decide to use this tour company and do a group tour, I would suggest researching a warung or cafe in advance and ask your driver and group (thankfully, they seem to keep groups small - in our case there were only four of us + the driver), if they'd be happy to go there and pay for lunch themselves. I strongly recommend considering this piece of advice or even shouting the group their meals because going to this place is NOT IT The 5-hours of travel in one day and then lining up with thousands of tourists at each site for ~2.5hours of scenery is NOT WORTHWHILE. DIY the trip and you'll have a far better experience and you could do it for a similar price.
