Touring the historical walls of Derry will take you on a 1.4 km (0.87 miles) journey through one of Europe’s most well-conserved walled cities. Constructed in 1613, these walls serve as a narrative platform to recount Derry’s past. From the Monastic period (6th century), Derry’s history spans through the Nine Years War, Plantation of Ulster, 1641 Rebellion, Siege of Derry 1689, 1798 Rebellion, the Great Hunger, and beyond. This 90-minute tour provides an in-depth look into Ireland’s history.

Dodged the rain for a great walk - It was a rainy day but fortunately stayed dry enough for our 90 minute tour around the walls. Gleann was a great guide and knew his city. Pointed out both old and not so old features as we walked the mile around the city wall. Definitely worth the time and effort spent. However, beware it is a fairly long walk with lots of steps and steep slopes. If you have walking issues this may not be suitable. Check before you book.

Derry Walls Tour - Lara did a wonderful job telling the history of the Derry Walls even the smallest details. Since we are Derry Girls fans, she pointed out several places where scenes from the show was taped.

Great Tour of the Walled City - A wonderful tour made more special by our tour guide Gleann. Gleann's knowledge of the history of Derry is unparalleled. The tour takes you around the walled city with Gleann adding his insights as to the changes throughout the years. While a private tour may be more expensive than a group tour, it is well worth the price difference.

Brilliant Walking Tour with a local - Excellent, informative and great fun to walk the walls and hear the Derry stories from history to the present day. Our guide was a brilliant and humorous story teller and we enjoyed this tour very much. Highly recommended if you would like to know about the Derry story from a local while walking the amazing Derry Walls.

Excellent Guide - We were first time visitors to Derry, so decided to book a tour of the city's walls. Our guide was Gleann who was knowledgeable and friendly. Our party learned a lot about the history of the walls, the city and the surrounding area and I cannot speak highly enough about Gleann. He was a great guide and I would absolutely recommend his 90 minute walking tour of the walls.

Second generation City tour director. - The tour was sort of amended since it was raining but it was still very good. The lady that gave the tour was a second generation Derry tour guide and her insights were very enlightening. It was a very memorable part of our whole Ireland tour.

Wow. Derry. What an experience. Thank you. - Great experience with our guide. We learned an enormous amount about Derry - both recent history as well as that back into the 1600’s. We are from the US and didn’t know the deep history behind Derry. Wow. It cause us to find out more and go wander about “free Derry” to take a look at the monuments and murals. Thanks again to Gleann our guide. You opened our eyes.

Very Informative Tour - During our 13 day coach tour of Ireland, this was one of our tour excursions. We started with a little bus tour of the city, and then got off and walked around the wall. Our guide was really good, and explained a lot of the history of the troubles time period, and all about the wall. The wall has been very well preserved, and it was neat to see it close up, and to understand its' history and, sadly, its purpose.
