Dades Valley Activities - The journey begins from Marrakech to the blue city at 8:00 am, departing from your hotel or Riad. Traveling through the High Atlas Mountains (2260m high), there will be several photo stops, including a notable one at Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its roles in movies like Game of Thrones and Gladiator. Lunch will be enjoyed in this charming village.
Following this, the tour will visit the Taourirt Kasbah in Ouarzazate, another historical landmark, before continuing to explore the stunning natural scenery of the Valley of the Roses, celebrated for its annual Rose Festival. The journey will pass through the Berber villages of Kelaa de M’Gouna and Boulmane Dades along the Valley, where the night will be spent.
Dades Valley – Tinghir – Merzouga (Night in the Erg Chebbi Desert)
Merzouga - After breakfast in Boulmane Dades, the journey continues to Merzouga, passing through the Berber village of Tinghir and the Todra Gorges, where towering canyons dominate the landscape. Along the way, there will be stops at various villages, with lunch options in Tinjdad or Rissani in the Tafilalet region, known for its Berber pizza.
In the afternoon, Merzouga will be reached to embark on an adventure in Morocco’s renowned desert, Erg Chebbi. After a brief rest and tea, a camel ride will commence, leading to a nomadic camp nestled among the highest sand dunes in North Africa. The camp provides comfortable tents with mattresses and bedding, a restaurant, a kitchen, and toilet facilities. Dinner and music around the campfire will be enjoyed in the evening, followed by a memorable night’s sleep in the Merzouga desert.
Erg Chebbi Desert – Midelt - Fez
Erg Chebbi - An early rise will allow for witnessing the breathtaking sunrise over the desert, followed by a camel ride. After refreshing and having breakfast, the journey will leave Erg Chebbi and head north, passing through the Ziz Valley and the Middle Atlas Mountains towards Fez. Frequent stops will be made to admire the rocky mountains and expansive plains. One stop will be in Azrou, where North African monkeys can be observed in their natural habitat within a cedar forest. Eventually, Fez will be reached to spend the night.
Visit of Fez
Fes - On the fourth day of the desert excursion from Marrakech to Chefchaouen, there is an option to explore Fez, one of Morocco’s oldest cities, with a private tour guided by a local expert. Known as the “Athens of Africa,” Fez boasts a rich cultural, religious, and educational heritage.
If this option is chosen, the day will begin with a visit to the grand esplanade of the Royal Palace, showcasing its magnificent architecture. Then, the tour will proceed to the 16th-century Borj Sud, offering a stunning panoramic view of the walled city. The journey will continue through the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Medina, where narrow alleys, enchanting bazaars, ancient Quranic schools (madrasas), and picturesque shrines will be explored. Bustling Nejjarine Square and the Dar Batha Museum, displaying exquisite Moroccan art, will also be part of the experience.
Fez – Volubilis (Walili) - Chefchaouen
Volubilis - After breakfast at your Riad, the journey will cross the Saiss Plain to reach the archaeological site of Volubilis, a significant UNESCO World Heritage Site in Morocco. Spanning an area of 42 hectares, this site showcases urban development at the borders of the Roman Empire and exhibits numerous artistic materials such as mosaics, marble, and bronze sculptures. It holds historical importance for various civilizations, including the Libico-Berber, Mauritanian, Roman, Christian, and Arab-Islamic cultures. The journey will then head to Chefchaouen to spend the night.
Chefchaouen - Casablanca (or Marrakech if desired)
Chefchaouen - After breakfast, there will be an opportunity to explore the simple yet beautiful city of Chefchaouen, renowned for its blue-dyed houses and picturesque cobbled streets against the backdrop of the mountains. A visit to Uta El Hammam Square, where the Kasbah is located, and enjoying tea or even lunch in this charming setting is a must. The visit to the blue city will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression.
From Chefchaouen, the journey will head to Casablanca. Alternatively, if preferred, the desert excursion can conclude in Marrakech or any other city located along the route from Chefchaouen to Marrakech.
