NC fishing family - Went out June 11th (after tropical storm came through on Sunday) hoping to catch some red snapper. No luck on the red snapper, but was still able to fill the cooler with other snapper. Also caught grouper, cobia and trigger fish that we threw back. It was the first time for my wife who had not been out on a party boat charter but had done private charters and she done well. We stopped at several places, but had the most luck on the first stop catching snapper two at a time.

Mingos and Trigger Fish - We had no problem catching our limit of Mingos on this trip. We got lots of trigger fish but most under the 15 inch. We also caught red snapper which had to be returned because of June 1 season, and some grouper which were too small. Crew took care of us and recommend the six hour trip.

A little strange, but overall ok - I have very mixed feelings about this trip. My adult son was very excited to go deep sea fishing finally, and I booked based on the images of the trip. However, I got a call the day before saying the boat in particular was not available and we would have to be on a smaller boat, (ended up being a very different boat, no upstairs, half the size), but we didn't know how different it would be so said ok as we were leaving the next day. I never saw the captain, except for his feet being propped up, he didn't come down and talk to us at all, or make any attempt to talk to use during the trip. I don't even know what he looked like; the college boys doing all of the work however, were wonderful, helpful, polite. I wish I'd more cash on me. I think it is very sad that the boat was not like the images portrayed, and that the actual boat docked within 10 minutes of us docking, and had only a few guests on it. It was all very strange. There were no older hands to do the fish fillets, so the younger guys didn't have much experience with cleaning the fish, which was also unlike the pics. I didn't realize there were still scales on the fish, and so many bones, but that could be my own fault. The guests were wonderful, the trip was on a perfect day, and a true effort was made to be sure everyone that wanted to catch fish had ample opportunity to do so. I wanted to be able to give this a 5, but the split from what was advertised was somewhat important to note.

A long ride and a crowded boat. - The crew were great and very helpful. The fishing positions were too close together and the lines would get tangled with other folks every time the boat moved. 4 hours of riding time, one hour of fishing time and the other hour was dealing with tangles or moving to another fishing area.

Mediocre Fishing Charter - Although I caught some big fish; they were out of season and had to be thrown back. The rest of the fish were small. I live in the Tampa area and I go deep sea fishing regularly. With this charter I caught maybe a third of the fish I normally catch at home (and I normally catch 30+) Also, I think we were shorted out time to fish longer in order to get back to port. The charter was from 6am to 1pm. We were back at the dock by 12pm. I think if you want to take the kids fishing I think there are plenty of charters that will gladly give you what you are paying for.

Bad experience - Rough seas with wind, rain and high waves. 30 foot boats were cancelling their charters for the day. Safety wasn’t really a concern for me but comfort and fun are. First couple of stops for the boat were virtually unfishable. Had to hold onto the rail with one hand and the wind and rain were difficult as well. Numerous people got sick and many people did not even fish because of conditions. There were some fish caught however, I don’t think any red snappers of legal size were brought in. True party boat trip with over 50 people on board. I actually fished a semi-private charter earlier in week with 14 people on board. We caught more fish on that trip than this boat with over 50. First mates were okay. Had better. I took off a couple fish myself in order to get back fishing quicker. Caught 2 triggerfish, 2 mingos, 1 grunt. Typically will catch 10-15 fish on a charter like this. Also the boat left dock 10 mins late and arrived back about 10 mins early. Recommend try another charter.

Rip off. - Dangerous conditions Wednesday 5/15/24. The boat should never have left the dock. Fishing in 6-8 feet waves in impossible and dangerous. If you can't stand up, you can't fish. 70-80% of the 50+ passengers were SICK. The few fish that were caught were no bigger than your hand.

Novelty - Seemed more like a novelty fishing experience. Small fish for the hour and a half spent getting to the spot and another hour and a half back. I would recommend a more private charter if you are looking for big fish. Crew was nice.

Fisherman beware - They canceled our finishing trip at the last minute because they said they didn’t have enough people on the trip. This is was going to be the highlight of our vacation. Of course by the time they let us know it was too late to find another fishing charter. Pelican Adventures you really suck. I wish I could give you less than one star.
