Great experience - This is a must. We had 2pm reservations but arrived at 1245 and they said we could to the 1pm tour. We were so thankful that they let us go early vs waiting. That was so nice of them. We had Jim and he did a great job, you could not ask for a better tour guide. We had our 2 teenage daughters with us. One of them is the one who wanted to see a plantation and Jim helped her really enjoy it but the other one seemed to enjoy it just as much. We really enjoyed learning the history behind this plantation and how things were different years ago. The girls also liked hearing about how this plantation has been used in movies and videos. The tour starts with them giving you a tour of the house and then let explore the rest of the ground son your own. They have a great gift shop. We are happy we checked this out.

Great way to learn some local history - During our recent trip to New Orleans we decided to try something new. Glad we did. It was a beautiful area and our tour guide (Tristan) was very educated on the plantations history. If you go in June go early the temperature was perfect.

Artistic inspiration - We were so lucky to have had Alan for our guide! My husband and I felt like there wasn't anything we couldn't ask that he wouldn't have an answer for. The plantation is beautiful. I walked away with enough photos to inspire paintings for years and I even have an idea for a novel! I've been to New Orleans on multiple vacations, but never took this opportunity. I'm so glad I did it this time!

Not to be missed! - Superb visit! Very interesting guided tour and much less impersonal than in the very large tourist plantations. With a small group, our guide Jim, a former history teacher, takes the time to explain all aspects of the plantation very well, and the comments are very balanced between the family of planters and the condition of slaves. Tour in English. We recommend

A magnificent journey into the history of Louisiana. - A visit not to be missed miss. Far from business attractions, where every dollar raised is used to continue the maintenance and development of the domain. The planting and the restoration work undertaken are exceptional. The tour places the plantation in the history of Louisiana and how the Destrehan family played a role in its acquisition in the United States. The restoration is also an opportunity to discuss the construction techniques used, the work of the architect, a mulatto slave, who was then able to buy his freedom and have his own plantation. The condition of slaves, their revolt then their emancipation in 1863 are also discussed. Ann is a very erudite guide who knows how to capture and keep the attention of visitors.

Lovely tour!!! - Had a lovely day at Destrehan Plantation today with my husband. What a wonderful tour! We were led by Ann, a beautiful costumed guide. Her enthusiasm and knowledge of the period and the plantation was captivating. The short tour was packed with so much information that one can’t help but be transported back to that period in history. Thank you Ann for sharing your knowledge. My husband and I had a lovely time. I highly recommend this tour. The proximity to New Orleans is a great +++!

Thoroughly enjoyed the day, HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. - We took out of town friends for a tour, and it was amazing!! Our tour guide, Jim, was very knowledgeable about the plantation itself and of the Destrehan family history. His appreciation for this historic landmark was obvious and contagious. I would definitely recommend the tour and would absolutely recommend Jim as your guide.

Jim was a great tour guide. - We ended up picking the Destrehan Plantation for a tour because it was closer to New Orleans and did not require advance reservations. Jim was tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and the plantation, its history, and the architecture of the main house. The plantation has a lot of history related to it. Was very happy we did the tour. Jan was also there the day of our visit giving history about the 1811 Slave Revolt that occurred in the area. Jan also showed us a map that shows all the plantations that were along the lower Mississippi River. This was very informing.
