The Lockhart tea factory is famous for its Orthodox Tea produced in the traditional way. The museum includes a living factory which was built in 1936 and a tea sales outlet and tea-tasting sections. The visitors are given a briefing about the origins of tea for consumption, its history & health benefits and explained about the traditional tea manufacturing processes.

Visit a Living Tea Factory - Lockhart - Had a great experience on the tea plantation tour in Munnar.
Raju, the guide, was excellent. He has extensive knowledge on the tea making process, due to his familyβs involvment in tea picking. He also provided some background history about the start of the plantations in the state dating back to the British Raj, which I enjoyed. You get to walk through the fields and get up close to see the workers cultivating the crops.
This was followed by a guided tour at the local Lockhart tea factory. This is a living factory and we were able to go into the rooms right next to the machinery which was drying and griding the tea leaves. Ended with a tea tasting session.
Definately worthwhile if in Munnar as the ability to visit an operating tea factory is not available much elsewhere in the area. Excellent value for money and great knowledge from the guide.

Spectacular views. - Very well organised from end to end.
We needed a taxi pick up and drop off from our hotel which was arranged at a reasonable price quickly.
Our guide Mari was had a lot of knowledge and explained everything very well, from all tea plants and all other plants in the gardens to the tea factory and the process of making tea from leaf to cup. Mari was also very nice and very kind. I really recommend to ask for him by name while booking.
Amazing experience with spectacular views. Definitely recommended.

The tea tour we were looking for - This guided tour was exactly what we wanted in Munnar. Mari gave us extensive insights of the lockhart plantation and the factory. He explained multiple local plants and how they are used. He was the kindest person and he answered passionately to all the questions. We highly recommend this activity to anyone that might be interested in learning more about tea, or even to just have a nice walk around tea plantations in an incredibly beautiful place.

Fantastic - My friends and I visited the Lockhart tea plantation, it was a wonderful experience. Our guide Mr. Mari showed us around the tea plantations and also the tea factory. He was very knowledgeable and explained how different tea is cultivated and processed. All of the staffs were warm and friendly. It was totally worth.

Great tour with a knowledgeable guide - Super great tour, would recommend to everyone! Our guide Mari was very knowledgeable and didnβt only explain about the area but also the Ayurvedic medicinal plants and the local wildlife. I would definitely recommend this to anyone!
