Dongzhulin Temple - Begin the day with a scenic 4-hour drive to Deqin County, situated at an altitude of 3,400 meters and 187 kilometers from Shangri-La. The journey offers breathtaking views of diverse trees, valley streams, prayer flags, stupas, and Tibetan villages.

Ascend to the Dongzhulin Monastery, located in Shusong Village, Benzilan District, Deqin County, 105 kilometers from Zhongdian County’s center. The Yunnan-Tibet Road runs behind the temple, allowing direct car access. Established in 1667 during the sixth year of the Kang Xi Period in the Qing Dynasty, the monastery is a historical gem.

Yubeng Village - Arrive in Xidang in the afternoon and take a jeep to Yubeng Village.

Yubeng Village is nestled in Yunling Township of Deqin County, at the eastern base of Meili Snow Mountain in Yunnan Province. Encircled by mountains, Yubeng Village boasts a unique geographical setting at an altitude of 3,000 meters. With no highway access, two routes lead to Yubeng from Xidang (西当) and Ninong (尼农). This quaint Tibetan village at the foot of Meili Snow Mountain is a hiker’s paradise.

Yubeng Village- Holy Waterfall- Yubeng Village

Yubeng Waterfall - Witness the sunrise over the Mt. Kawagebo Glacier from the guesthouse.
This day’s hike takes you into a valley that ends in a cul-de-sac, requiring a return on the same path. From Yubeng, follow the signs into the valley to reach the Sacred Waterfall after approximately 4.5 hours of uphill trekking (elevation 3,650 meters). The descent back to Yubeng takes about 2.5 hours.

Yubeng Village- Ice Lake-Yubeng Village

Yubeng Village - Enjoy the sunrise over the Mt. Kawagebo Glacier from the guesthouse, then hike to Binghu Ice Lake of the Meili Snow Mountain. Traverse the pristine forest from Yubeng Village, where you may encounter horses, yaks, and possibly some wild animals. A picturesque river originating from Glacier Park runs alongside the trail, with wooden bridges and spruce trees offering stunning views of Mt. Kawagebo Glacier. Finally, reach the Ice Lake at the glacier’s base. Return to Yubeng Village in the late afternoon to enjoy the sunset over Kawagebo Peak.

The return trek takes 3 to 4 hours.

Yubeng-Ninong-Shangrila

Yubeng Village - Depart early for a long but rewarding walk along Yubeng’s less-traveled path, from Lower Yubeng Village back to Xidang, via Ninong Canyon. Return to Shangri-La in the afternoon.
