Discovering the Hidden Charms of Ninh Binh: A Two-Day Adventure
Eager to explore the hidden gems of Vietnam, I embarked on a two-day adventure through Ninh Binh. This journey promised a blend of cultural immersion and natural beauty, and it did not disappoint.
A Serene Start in Tam Coc
As a seasoned solo traveler, I often find myself seeking out experiences that offer both adventure and tranquility. The Ninh Binh 2-day Tour was the perfect blend of both. My journey began with a comfortable pick-up from my Airbnb in Hanoi, a gesture I appreciated as it was slightly outside the usual pick-up zone. The drive to Ninh Binh was a breezy 90 minutes, made even more enjoyable by our guide, Quoc Anh, who regaled us with fascinating tidbits about Vietnamese culture and history.
Upon arrival in Tam Coc, I was immediately taken by the serene beauty of the place. My accommodation for the night was a charming bungalow by the river, part of a homestay arrangement that felt both authentic and welcoming. As the sun set, I took a leisurely stroll around the area, sipping on a local tea and soaking in the peaceful ambiance. The night was calm, with only the gentle sounds of nature accompanying my thoughts.
Immersed in Nature and Culture
The first day was packed with activities that showcased the natural and cultural splendor of Ninh Binh. We cycled through the countryside, visiting a local farmer’s house where we were warmly welcomed with traditional tea and candy. It was a unique opportunity to learn about the Vietnamese way of life, particularly the VAC model of farming, which integrates garden, pond, and cage.
Our journey continued to the Bich Dong Pagoda, one of the oldest in the region. The ride there was a visual feast, with lush greenery and towering limestone mountains lining our path. In the afternoon, we explored the Thung Nham Bird Sanctuary, a haven for over 40 species of birds. The sight of thousands of birds taking flight against the backdrop of a setting sun was nothing short of magical.
Dinner was a delightful affair back at the homestay, where I enjoyed a vegetarian meal that was both hearty and delicious. The evening was mine to enjoy, and I spent it reflecting on the day’s adventures, eager for what the next day would bring.
A Journey Through Time
The second day began with a hearty breakfast, fueling us for another day of exploration. We cycled to a local market, immersing ourselves in the vibrant hustle and bustle of Vietnamese daily life. Our next stop was the Mua Cave, where a climb to the top of Lying Dragon Mountain rewarded us with panoramic views of the entire Ninh Binh province.
The highlight of the day was a sampan boat ride through Tam Coc, often referred to as “Ha Long Bay on land.” The tranquil waters and majestic limestone formations created a surreal landscape that was both awe-inspiring and humbling. Our final destination was Hoa Lu, the ancient capital of Vietnam, where we delved into the rich history of the Dinh and Le Dynasties.
As the tour came to an end, I found myself reflecting on the incredible journey I had just experienced. The Ninh Binh 2-day Tour had not only introduced me to the breathtaking beauty of northern Vietnam but also offered a deeper understanding of its culture and history. It was a journey that left me with a sense of fulfillment and a longing to return one day.
