Black Virgin Mountain, Cao Dai Temple and Cu Chi Tunnel review - It was nice tour… The guide HIGH MOUNTAIN was very nice and funny… Breakfast was Pho and Lunch was Vietnamese cuisine….
Would be more fun if we could spend more time on Black Virgin Mountain… It was just 1 and half hour…
Cao Dai temple visit is just ok… lots of restriction there…
I really recommend to go this tour…

A great day out with High Mountain - We (Subbi and I and our friend) joined Viet Fun Travel's Black Virgin Mountain, Cao Dai Temple & Cu Chi Tunnels tour from Ho Chi Minh City on 2 March 2025.
We had researched a bunch of tours that visit the area but this one ticked all our boxes - many tours still only do the Cu Chi Tunnels and Cao Dai Temple, or Cu Chi Tunnels and Ba Den Mountain but relatively few do all three. Of the ones that do all three Viet Fun Travel aimed to have you at the Cao Dai Temple for their midday service which was important to us.
Our experience with the level of service from Viet Fun Travel started back in November 2024 when we reached out to the company via email. We had checked their hotel pick up zone and our hotel was just off one of the eligible streets. We asked whether, instead of making our way to their office at Pham Ngu Lao for pick up, could we wait at a nearby hotel within the zone. Viet Fun Travel very quickly replied to advise there was no need as they could pick us up from our hotel! Communication was easy. We also received a WhatsApp reminder the night before the tour which I thought was a good idea.
We were collected about 5 minutes later than scheduled by High Mountain (our guide, this is of course the English translation of his Vietnamese name) and the driver (around 6:40am). It's a small group tour, which we prefer - with only 10 in our group.
Immediately upon getting onboard we were provided with a snack, a small carton of milk, and two bottles of water each. We weren't quite sure if this was the included breakfast but very soon learned we were stopping for pho on our way (breakfast was delicious).
High Mountain filled us in on what was upcoming at the next stop. He also shared some stories about his family, which was nice as it made him less of a stranger.
We had both English speaking and Vietnamese speaking guests on the tour so High Mountain switched between the groups speaking English and Vietnamese. He made sure to pay equal attention to both language groups.
At each stop he checked to make sure the whole group was there, and moved us through various spots at a reasonable pace - you never felt rushed. Unlike some other tours I've been on, High Mountain was also a very responsible host as he regularly took a head count to make sure no-one got lost along the way.
All information at stops was made clear - especially meal stops (breakfast and lunch where the meal is included but drinks are additional). I especially appreciated that he was willing to get the name of one dish I really enjoyed at lunch (so I can keep an eye out for it and order it again)!
High Mountain was also good at making sure there were comfort stops along the way - pointing out toilet facilities at each stop.
High Mountain speaks decent English, though he has quite a strong accent so put your listening ears on. If you do you'll be rewarded not only with relevant information for the tour but also get to enjoy a few jokes along the way.
Finally, High Mountain also took pictures of the group throughout the tour. For anyone who wanted them he WhatsApp'd them at the end of the day. This was great as so rarely do you get photos of yourself on a tour. It was also nice to have some pics of the whole group!
The irritations you might experience on the tour aren't to do with Viet Fun Travel, rather the popularity of the stops. The Cu Chi Tunnels is busy and you can't always get that photo you want because of the number of groups going through (and inconsiderate fellow travellers, especially some well known for their propensity to take big group tours and push their way to the front with no regard to other travellers).
To Viet Fun's credit, they reversed our trip taking us to the Cu Chi Tunnels first which meant it was quieter than it might otherwise have been - there were far more people making their way in when we left than when we arrived so I'm sure it was a less pleasant experience for the later arrivals. A little unfortunately that did mean when we got to Ba Den Mountain the sun was in the wrong position for good photos of the Black Lady Buddha and the Maitreya Buddha but we were also at the same time fortunate to have clear skies and bright sunshine.
The Cao Dai Temple is beautiful and it's wonderful to get to experience their ceremony. Unfortunately they no longer open the balcony above the hall to tourists so you congregate at the back entrance, jostling with other groups to get a view through the door to take it in and get your photos. We were lucky to be only the second group of the wave that went through around 1:30pm but it got crowded quickly. It's a real feeling of conflict wanting to experience the ceremony but at the same time feeling a bit vulturish as you vie for the best photo spot.
Overall the tour is a long day but really worthwhile. The three stops are generally in the same direction out of HCMC so it makes sense to do the three together. I think it's fair to say our favourite part Ba Den Mountain with a beautiful cable car ride up, and free time at the top so we could each see what was important to us (the hour and a half was perfect).
Thoroughly recommended, and if you get High Mountain as your guide you know you're in safe, friendly hands.

A full day tour of excellent value. - We really wanted to do this tour and are so happy that we found a company that did it.
It was a long day but worth it. Daniel was an excellent guide and his English teacher was very fluent. Cu Chi tunnels were very interesting and gave me a feeling and appreciation of what happened during the war. Cao Dai temple was interesting and will spire me to read up on it. The Black Virgin Mountain was an amazing engineering marvel. Beautifully built complex at the top of the mountain.

Tour of Cu Chi tunnels, Cao Dai temple, Black Virgin Mountain. - Very happy with the tour organised by Viet Fun Travel. The guide was knowledgeable and friendly and spoke good English as well as Vietnamese. The pace did not feel too rushed despite fitting a lot into the day (although it is a lobg day). The food included for breakfast and lunch was good, better than most similar tours I've been on.

Ok tour to Black Virgin Mountain, Cao Dai, and zku Chi tunnels. - Tour was just ok. Places visited were nice and interesting, and all went well. However, several things bothered me: we were 5 in total, when 4 were Vietnamese and didn't speak any English, so I had absolutely no communication with others the entire long day. The food provided (breakfast and lunch) was not geared towards westerners. The guide (Bao) did a good job in the Ku chi Tunnels explaining to me in English, but otherwise there was not much info provided during the tour.
