Highlights
  • Great Ocean Road Memorial Archway - This arch was constructed to honor the 3,000 returned soldiers who worked on the road during World War I. Construction of the Great Ocean Road began in 1919 and the 243-kilometer stretch was completed in 1932.
  • Lorne - Our morning tea stop is in this charming village on the Erskine River. Choose from a variety of cafes and bakeries, or simply enjoy a walk along the bay. Lorne is also known for its large colonies of Cockatoos (large parrots).
  • Great Ocean Road - After leaving Lorne, we continue along the cliff faces and escarpments of the Great Ocean Road, stopping at the best photo opportunities.
  • Apollo Bay - We descend into Apollo Bay for our lunch stop. With its 3km long beachfront, you have the chance to explore this fishing village your way. Enjoy lunch at a local hotel, try local seafood at various cafes, or bring your own lunch to enjoy on the beach.
  • Great Otway National Park - The park features Mountain Ash and Californian Redwood forests adorned with ferns, complemented by sea vistas of the Southern Ocean as we make our way to the Shipwreck Coast.
  • Gibsons Steps - Consider descending to this stunning beach. Be dwarfed by the 70-meter high vertical cliffs and marvel at Gog and Magog, the giant limestone stacks rising from the sea. (This is optional for those who prefer not to take the steps.)
  • Twelve Apostles - Visit the Twelve Apostles visitor center and walk the short trail to the windswept lookouts to witness the dramatic sight of waves crashing against the famous sea stacks.
  • Loch Ard Gorge - Loch Ard Gorge is the site of the most famous shipwreck on the aptly named Shipwreck Coast. With beach access currently closed, we explore the cliff-top lookouts of the gorge and Mutton Bird Island.
