Highlights

National Museum of Qatar - The National Museum of Qatar, located in Doha, opened its current building to the public on March 28, 2019, replacing the original structure from 1975. Designed by architect Jean Nouvel, the building draws inspiration from the desert rose crystal found in Qatar. Visitors can explore a series of galleries arranged in a loop, covering three main interconnected themes. These galleries, presented in a roughly chronological order, start with the natural history of the desert and the Persian Gulf, followed by Bedouin cultural artifacts, historical exhibits on tribal conflicts, the formation of the Qatari state, and the discovery of oil up to the present day. The exhibits feature audiovisual presentations and carefully curated treasures from the museum’s collection.

Souq Waqif - Souq Waqif (Arabic: Sūq Wāqif, “the standing market”) is a traditional marketplace in Doha, Qatar, offering a variety of goods such as traditional clothing, spices, handicrafts, and souvenirs. It also houses numerous restaurants and Shisha lounges. The original structure, built in the early 20th century in traditional Qatari architectural style, was renovated in 2006. Established over a century ago near the dry riverbed known as Wadi Musheireb, the souq served as a trading hub for Bedouins and locals, primarily dealing in livestock. Today, Souq Waqif is a popular tourist attraction in Doha.

Katara Cultural Village - Katara is a cultural village situated on the eastern coast of Doha, between West Bay and the Pearl. The name “Katara” was historically used for Qatar before the 18th century. The village had a soft opening in October 2010 during the Doha Tribeca Film Festival (DTFF), which it continues to host. Katara features an open amphitheater, an opera house, a multi-purpose cinema, a conference hall, a beach, and a souq. In November 2015, a museum dedicated to the country’s maritime heritage was inaugurated.

The Pearl Island - The Pearl-Qatar is a man-made island covering nearly four square kilometers, marking the first land in Qatar available for freehold ownership by foreign nationals. Named “The Pearl” because it is built on a former major pearl diving site, the island symbolizes Qatar’s historical significance in the pearl trade. Before the oil boom and the advent of more affordable Japanese pearls, Qatar was a leading pearl trader in Asia. The Pearl-Qatar is designed to resemble a string of pearls, reflecting the nation’s rich pearl diving heritage.

8 hour lay over - Excellent way to get an introduction to the city. We had an 8 hour layover and wanted to explore the city. Our driver (Mohammed) knew all the spots and had the timing perfect. We ended our tour at the souq and then feasted at Parisa. Highly recommend!

Fantastic spontaneous city tour by Nawaz - Just coming back from the city tour with Nawaz, spontaneously booked at my hotel‘s reception! Nawaz arrived within 20 minutes after booking in his air-conditioned car, equipped with chilled water and complimentary sunglasses. Besides driving me wherever I wanted to go, he explained the sights and their history. We also explored the National Museum of Qatar. Before dropping me off at the airport, he invited me to an ice cream from „Mubarak Cafeteria“ – I can definitely recommend! Overall, Nawaz is a great guide with an interesting and open personality! Thank you, Nawaz, for this (unplanned, but) unforgettable city tour!

A lot to see in a short time. =) - Mohammed was great in taking us around the city. He contacted me the night before as well to confirm everything so it eased my mind. He obviously knew the areas very well and accomodated our kids who were battling the heat. It was a treat to get into the falconry shop and also get dropped off where we requested to have lunch. Got to see a lot in a short amount of time so that's where it's worth it. Thanks Mohammed!

They Didn't turn up. Unreliable Operator. Couldn't call them a company. - Disappointingly Adventure Time Tourism let us down. Didn't Show up. Waited an hour. One star for not turning up should be no stars. Badly let down and unreliable.
