Discovering the Heart of Higüey

Our family adventure began in the vibrant city of Higüey, a place that immediately captured our hearts with its rich history and cultural charm. As we stepped off the bus, the air was filled with the aroma of local spices and the lively chatter of the bustling Dominican Market. The kids were wide-eyed with wonder, taking in the colorful stalls brimming with fresh produce and handmade crafts. It was a perfect opportunity to teach them about the importance of supporting local artisans and farmers.

Our guide, a passionate local, led us through the market, sharing fascinating stories about the traditions and customs of the Dominican people. We learned about the significance of the Basilica of Higüey, a stunning architectural marvel that stands as a testament to the country’s deep-rooted faith. The kids were particularly intrigued by the tales of miracles associated with the basilica, and I could see their imaginations running wild.

A Taste of Tradition

After a morning of exploration, we were treated to a delicious lunch by the Anamuya River. The setting was idyllic, with the gentle sound of the river providing a soothing backdrop to our meal. Nature’s Playground

The highlight of our day was undoubtedly the visit to the Anamuya River, where we had the chance to swim and enjoy the natural beauty of the area. The kids were thrilled to slide down the 100-foot natural slide into the river, their laughter echoing through the trees. It was a moment of pure joy and freedom, a reminder of the simple pleasures that nature offers.

As the day came to a close, we made our way to Macao Beach, where the sun was setting over the crystal-clear waters. The kids built sandcastles while my husband and I took a moment to soak in the breathtaking view. It was the perfect end to a day filled with learning, laughter, and love.
