Montenegro Gem - This one day trip to Montenegro’s Bay of Kotor was the perfect way for us to sample this beautiful country. Our tour guide Martina handled all the logistics – including taking us through the international checkpoints, so we could simply enjoy. The day included a tour of old town, Kotor, free time to explore and have lunch, a trip to Peras, and a boat ride to the Our lady of the rocks. We thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend this trip.

A preview of Montenegro by Amico Tours - I booked Best of Montenegro - Bay of Kotor tour the day before through TripAdvisor. It was excellent. Martina and the driver (unfortunately I forget the name) were wonderful and organized. The Kotor guide was ok. He was knowledgeable but I personally didn’t find him as engaging, personable and interactive at least to the English speakers which was a group of 4 vs 9 Spanish speakers. That part was only an hour. To avoid the line ups (esp from other tour groups) at the crossing border, meeting time was at 6:20 am to start early. We were back in Dubrovnik near the wall city by around 5 pm. Timings at the destinations are tad short but that is to be expected when signing up with tours to visit places. This tour is slightly more in price than the others but you get guides who will provide context to the places you visit. It is the reason why I chose this tour.

It was okay - So Jelena and the driver were great and pleasant and provided lots of information, as well as the tour guide in Kotor so I can't fault that. But overall Kotor and Perast were just a bit meh. The cable cars arnt even in Kotor nor is there public transport to them, you also don't get enough time in Kotor to do the walls. You arrive at 9am in Kotor but nothing opens until 10am, maybe thats different in high season but the museums didn't open until 10 and a few of the restaurants. This may be the Brit in me but Perast was pretty meh, if you've been to the lake District or Scotland then it's basically just that but with hundreds of people and cars everywhere, it's not even a nice walk through the town as it's choka with cars beeping and shouting at one another. The views are beautiful but if you are staying in Dubrovnik then it's not even nearly as nice. I think the tour would benefit from including an option to do the cable cars and I'd also spend less time in Perast.

Not sure I would take this tour again. - Our tour to Montenegro and tour guide, Martina, was great. However, the drop off procedure at end of day was terrible. We were not dropped off near our pickup point (Pile Gate), but a mile away without clear directions. We were lost. I have a bad knee and had to go down many stairs. This should have been disclosed before the tour. Bad end to a good day.

The scenery is awesome.... - The scenery is awesome. It did seem unnecessary to stop for a coffee break just after crossing the border into Montenegro. Too much free time was given at the fortress in Kotor, as well as at the Lady of the Rock. For the price we paid, the Lady of the Rock admission should be included in the package price. The website should also indicate that border delays may be more extensive by travelling on a Sunday. The guide was friendly, but she did not go out of her way to make the experience a special memory.

Unexpected tour with mixed language - The tour guide at Kotor has to translate to English and Spanish in every single site, which is unexpected and taking a lot of our time, and left not much time for us to do our visit on the old town. The tour should have been better organized with just one language, either English or Spanish.
