Mostar, a historically significant town that stretches across the deep Neretva River valley, was initially established in the 15th and 16th centuries as an Ottoman border town. It later developed during the Austro-Hungarian influence in the 19th and 20th centuries. The town has long garnered attention for its historical Turkish houses and its renowned Old Bridge, ‘Stari Most’, which is also its namesake. Unfortunately, the notorious 1990s conflicts resulted in the destruction of this historic location and the Old Bridge designed by the celebrated architect Sinan. However, the Old Bridge has been recently reconstructed, and many buildings in the Old Town have been either restored or rebuilt, owing to the contributions of an international scientific committee formed by UNESCO.
