Witness the stunning geology of the canyon, carved out by ancient glaciers, leaving a breathtaking landscape. You might spot wildlife such as deer, bears, marmots, birds, elk, and possibly even the elusive mountain lion, all of which have been seen on our tours. La Plata Canyon is just 20 minutes west of Durango, Colorado, and is rich with old Ghost Towns and numerous old mines to explore along the way. An absolute bucket list item!
What to expect:
- About a 20-minute drive on the highway to the canyon entrance
- Dirt and dust ~ this is an open-air vehicle
- Bumpy roads ~ This is a Jeep tour
- An experienced guide who knows the area and roads very well
- Extra blankets and jackets will be provided just in case you need them.
- Infants and young children requiring a car seat per Colorado Sate law. We do not provide car seats.
- Arrive 15 minutes early for check-in

A Trip Up La Plata Canyon - The 4 hour jeep tour to through La Plata Canyon was amazing. Our guide Tyler gave us so much information and showed us several beautiful waterfalls. He took pictures of our group whenever we wanted. This was such a great experience for all 6 of us!!🤩

A great morning- nice guide and wonderful scenery. - The guide was great. We got great photos.
Fun time. One caveat - if you have a bad back or neck, I would not recommend because the jeep ride was very bumpy.

Off the Charts Amazing!! - The booking experience was top-notch. I’m not for sure who it was that helped R us with the reservation even when the time had to be adjusted, but she was so positive and pleasant and explained everything in detail. Then we were guided by Hayden who was just off the charts amazing and took the time to explain everything along the route. The opportunities that he took at all the different waterfalls was amazing. I love the fact that the owner of the company bought property and that this company has the only access to the most amazing waterfall. If you don’t book an experience with this company, you are absolutely losing out! Next trip, we will book a guided river whitewater trip! The only thing is I wish is that they had 10 stars to give instead of just 5.. Thank you Hayden for making the experience so enjoyable and positive!

Beautiful views and wonderful experience. Highly recommend! - This was such a fun and beautiful experience. Our guide Fred was knowledgeable and kind. He drove us up La Plata mountain and the views were breathtaking. We felt safe the entire time and enjoyed our experience immensely. Highlights for us were the views from the top and the stop at the waterfall on the way down.

A must do - Great people who run the tours. Gene lent me his own fleece jacket so I would not be cold in the high elevations. Fred was a careful driver along treacherous rugged roads. Never felt rushed. Took photos for me at scenic points
