Additional Information

As the heartbeat of Tajikistan, Dushanbe is the nation’s capital, holding significant republican status as its most substantial cultural, political, economic, scientific, industrial, and administrative hub. The city houses the highest governing bodies of Tajikistan, inclusive of the President’s residence within the Presidential Palace. Home to the tallest flag globally, Dushanbe has earned a spot in the Guinness Book of Records. With a population exceeding a million people, it’s a vibrant city with a rich history. Although the date of the early settlement within the city remains unknown, artifacts belonging to inhabitants from the late Stone Age or the Neolithic period, around the 4-3 millennium BC, have been found. These findings can now be seen at the National Museum of Antiquities of Tajikistan, located in the country’s heartland.

Our guide was great - Our guide, Hokim was amazing. This review is more geared towards him. Some of the sites were closed by the government but he was able to improvise. We were also looking for postcards which are apparently not popular in Tajikistan. He drove us to a bunch of places until we finally found one. Since we were leaving the next day he took them to the post office for us and got them stamped/mailed

Good start visiting Dushanbe and the country. - Punctual pickup, decent car, young and friendly guide, and a good program to get to learn a bit about the capital and country. Started off with a walk around national monuments and parks. Visited the national museum that came to life thanks to a knowledgeable and enthusiastic museum guide. Visited some form of new presidential VIP center for high level meetings with lots of intricate wood carvings, marble, massive doors, huge round tables and heavy chandeliers - very picturesque kitch. The lunch at this center was a delicious plov, but I picked up a stomach bug either from the lemon tea or goat curd. We then visited a market/bazaar and more monuments plus a botanical garden that was very pleasant. The guide’s English and insights were somewhat limited but he was kind and friendly and took good care of me - overall I enjoyed this tour very much. It took around 6.5h in total.

Lots of walking to really learn the area. - Aziz was an excellent guide. We walked a lot which was excellent for seeing more of Dushanbe. We visited the “Meeting Palace,” National Museum, Independence Monument, Sonomi Monument, Persian Poet Monument, Botanical Gardens, the Flag, the traditional indoor market and saw other sites walking by. It was 91F and I drank 4 bottles of water. My favorite two were the top of the Independence Monument ($14 extra fee) and the Meeting Palace. We ate lunch at Taj which was traditional. I really learned a lot about “TJ” culture. Trip Advisor would not upload my selected photos from my iPhone 13 Pro Max.

BEautiful Dushanbe people - Everything went well without a hitch: from calls to organize, pick-up, tour, meal, return to hotel. Jacob (?spelling in Tajikistan) was an exceptional tour guide, very friendly, happy, pleasant tour guide. I am going to meet the whole family to take them out to lunch today because I liked Jacob so much. I love the people of Dushanbe.

Experiences in a remarkable city - Dushanbe was great. As we found out later in our Central Asia trip, all of Central Asia is amazing. The guide was not very personable but he knew the city and we learned a lot about the city and the culture. Traveling during Ramadan reduces the menu items offered for lunch and dinner but that was not negative experience but a learning experience. The most amazing building to us was the Diplomatic Conference building. Three levels of breathtaking wooden floors, intricate ceramic patterns on the walls and even remarkable mirrors in the waiting room. We were supposed to visit a mosque during the tour and we not told how much time we had at each stop so that caused conflicts and us getting behind schedule.

Friendly guide, but room for improvement in this tour - Friendly tour guide, but I think management should train him better to proactively tell the history of the country. He took me to all famous sights and introduced me to the local food. However, I had to always ask questions about the country's history, demographics, and other facts which are always introduced upfront by other guides without me having to ask for it.
