Three main routes exist on the Grand Silk Road within Tajikistan’s borders: 1) The North / Sogdian pathway connects Samarkand (Uzbekistan) and Kashgar (China); 2) The West–East / Karotegin pathway runs from Termez (Uzbekistan) to Kashgar (China); 3) The South / Pamir pathway joins Termez (Uzbekistan) with Tashkent (China). These historical paths were established by the Persian, Greek, Chinese and Arab communities, and brought massive influence on international socio-economic interactions — trading and global culture between the 5th and 12th centuries.
