Highlights
 • Antisana Ecological Reserve - Antisana is a majestic and mysterious volcano on the western mountain range. It is the nucleus of this protected area in which we find moorlands and western Andean forests. Volcanic activity, glacial processes, and evolution have created amazing scenery along the way and a very diverse wildlife. Mirroring the volcano we find the Mica lagoon, where part of the water of Quito comes from. Aside from the lagoon, there are also swamp areas where water collects during the rainy season, forming seasonal lagoons such as Santa Lucia or Mauca Machay.

Antisana Volcano Day Tour - This is a hidden gem. No far from Quito and it seems very few visitors go there. Beautiful scenery on the drive and at the stopping point. Our guide pointed out several birds and animals. Lunch was great. Nice hike.

Saw the Antisana under full sun: marvellous sight.
Restaurant called Tambo Condor is a good restaurant but is not heated, hence must bring warm clothes. Good food and a lot of hummingbird around.
Viator: You must advice , in your publicity ,clients to bring warm clothes with them as wind is chilly plus to bring sun protector and water

Wow, was this fantastic. From the... -
Wow, was this fantastic. From the pickup to the return. Daunte Garcia our tour guide has so much local and historical knowledge to give you. We traveled to the Antitank Volcank, but due to the active nature of the volcano we saw it from a distance and viewed the glaciers on the top of the volcano. Our day was rain, sun, cool and exciting. We hiked at 12,300 feet along the Laguna of the National Pqrk. This was so exciting as we watched a local fisherman catch trout, and saw many highland rabbits. Along our tour we saw Andean Condors, and so many species of birds that I ant remember all there names.

After the National Park we went to a local restaurant for a 100 local lunch. We were served local trout, local potaoes, and local vegetables. The juice was Baca, and was fabulous. Also served was soup and a baked local apple for dessert. Worth every penny of he tour cost.

At the restaurant there are so many types of hummingbirds that we had never seen before. You will learn love it. Bring a camera. So many beautiful sights and birds to photo3.

On the rise back to Quito we saw the mining of volcanic rocks from the explosion of 300 years ago being used for roads and home construction. We had rain, cool weater, sun, and bumpy roads so be ready.

Be sure to wear hi,ignore shows and bring clothing to layer for the temperature.

My wife and I are volunteers for the National Park Service in the US and therefore had no problem with he activities. Just each your breakfast and breath easy.

Please take this tour, you will love it.

Condors! - It would have been an excellent day except for a landslide on the narrow road to the wildlife refuge - we lost nearly 2 hours because of this, but declined the suggestion of going somewhere else entirely. It was also a public holiday, and there were many people in the park, which reduced the chance of seeing wildlife. However, we did see CONDORS! Maybe a dozen of them, mostly high in the sky, but one swooped low over the road ahead of us and we got an excellent view! We passed on the hike, partly because we had already lost a lot of time, and also because the rare atmosphere, at 13,330 ft elevation, made every effort quite exhausting. Our guide, Oscar, was knowledgeable, but needed prompting with questions. He was rather quiet, and did not volunteer a lot of information, maybe because he was a bit unsure of his English. However, when questioned he had good, informative answers. He was also very good at identifying birds and plants. The lunch at a small hillside restaurant was excellent - Ecuadorian cuisine, with local trout as the main course.
