HIDROELECTRICA AGOYAN - From this point, we commence our journey along the renowned Waterfall Route, immersing ourselves in a tropical climate. Experience the exhilaration of crossing the Agoyan Waterfall on a cable car (Tarabita). And don’t forget to take plenty of selfies to share later! (Travel to Mega Adventure Park Rio Blanco: 20 minutes)
Mega Adventure Park Río Blanco.. - Experience the thrill of the Triple Canopy at Mega Adventure Park Río Blanco, the only triple canopy in Ecuador. It features a Tibetan bridge and a glass bridge spanning the Río Blanco River in the province of Tungurahua, at a height of 170 meters. If you’re an adrenaline junkie, this is the challenge for you. First up is the Triple Canopy, where three people can share the experience, each on their own cable, priced at $10 USD per person. Next is the Tibetan bridge with 11 obstacles along its course, offering a more intense experience at $15 USD per person. Lastly, the glass bridge, inaugurated in 2021, is the only one of its kind in the country and the first in Latin America. It spans 300 meters in length with 20 meters of glass distributed across three sections, suspended at a height of 120 meters. (Travel to Pailon del Diablo Waterfall: 30 minutes away)
Puyo - Located in the province of Pastaza, in Mera canton, the Miramera viewpoint is situated 10 minutes before the city of Puyo on the Baños - Tena road, on the right bank. Situated within the boundaries between the Province of Pastaza and Tungurahua, this viewpoint is named after the canton that welcomes you to the Amazon region, “Mera Canton”. You’ll recognize the viewpoint by a large sign on the road that says PASTAZA, as well as small signs displaying images of the famous nest. Admission costs $3 per person. The main tourist attraction is El Nido, a large-scale imitation of the oropendola bird’s nest from the Amazon, constructed with vines native to the region. Amazoonico Animal Rescue Centre - Experience an up-close encounter with an ocelot or tapir like never before at AmaZoonico, a rescue sanctuary for Amazonian animals. Run by volunteer guides, the sanctuary shares fascinating, sometimes tragic, stories of the center’s residents. From toucans to monkeys gradually adapting to life in the wild, and even anacondas fighting to readjust to nature after being sold in the black market, there’s much to discover. Cavernas Jumandy - Near Archidona city lies Jumandy Caves, a tourist complex showcasing petroglyph inscriptions from the ancient Quijos civilization. Jumandy, meaning ‘wise man’, was a chief honored as a national hero in 2011 for resisting Spanish rule. A guided 1-hour tour inside the caves highlights underground water currents and stunning stalactites/stalagmites. Admission is $7 USD per person; waterproof footwear required. Day three brings us to Chimborazo National Park, where we’ll marvel at the stunning scenery. On day four, we’ll visit Tungurahua and the vibrant city of Baños de Agua Santa. Then, we’ll embark on a thrilling two-day Amazon trip on days five and six, immersing ourselves in the rich biodiversity of the rainforest. Finally, on day seven, we’ll relax and rejuvenate at the soothing Papallacta Hot Springs before concluding our journey back in Quito.
- WHAT TO BRING?
- Light wool is ideal and a warm jacket is usually necessary in the highlands after the sunset. Shoes for walking, or good hiking boots, a thick sweater and a jacket. Remember that the higher you are, the colder the weather will be.
