A great way to spend the day - The Storytelling was a brilliant way to enjoy a meal. Best haggis I've ever eaten, and the deep fried pizza was quite a fun experience.

Fun foods with Alec. - Alec was a friendly and knowledgeable guide. He was flexible when it came to what we were interested in eating. Highly recommend you spend some time with Alec in Edinburgh.

Brilliant experience - We booked Alec for a food tasting tour around Edinburgh old town on a busy Saturday. Alec was extremely friendly, polite, approachable and knowledgable.
It was great to hear tales of bygone era as well as from Alec’s own childhood in the town. Many of the historical sites we visited we may have just walked on past and not fully appreciated but Alec really brought the history to life.
I wouldn’t recommend eating anything prior to your tour as we were well fed (the Greggs lorne sausage being a highlight).

Delicious foods - I was the only person on the tour and highly recommend it. The tour guide was knowledgeable and gave history information also. She was very sweet.

Edinburgh food tour with Alec - Alec was a great tour guide! It was the perfect balance of local food tastings mixed with history/information about the city. Would definitely recommend!

Eats fringe and more! - Our guide, Alec, was fantastic—a born story teller with a tremendous love for Scottish history —we were captivated as we wandered around the Royal Mile and its many historic sites. We learned so much and it was such fun. Unknown to Alec, however, this tour is described as 10 tastings of Edinburgh—but there were actually only three. For sure, though, you’ll love haggis by the time you finish, if not the “fish and chips” —actually fried, stuffed pizza at one apparently popular eatery, judging by the long lines. All things said, this tour was still a highlight for us, despite the crowds from Fringe.

Be warned! - I really struggled with how many stars to give this tour, because I do not like giving bad reviews, but feel like this is an opportunity to warn other folks.
We are frequent travelers and have taken advantage of many food tours including: Rome, Florence, Venice, Athens, Lisbon, and Palermo. We love to experience local foods and culture, picking up some ideas for good restaurants for our stay in different cities. Honestly, this tour in Edinburgh was the worst in terms of food. As many of the reviewers have stated, the title ("10 tastings") is very misleading. In addition, the food that was offered was what we would call fast food or take-away, leaving the impression that there is no other food worthy of tasting in Edinburgh. Not true! We even did a "street food" tour in Palermo. It was somewhat of the same type of food, but there was so much more of it along with beer and wine and was advertised as such.
We agree that Alec was a terrific story teller and we learned a great deal of local history from him. However, we had a city tour planned the next day (as we told him) and much of the information was repetitive.
We tasted a bit of candy at our first stop, then 3 meat pies and a mac & cheese pie topped off with some very sweet soda at our second stop. Last, but not least was deep fried pizza and chips at our last stop (Honestly?). The evening tour began at 5pm and being that it was very cool, we would have appreciated sitting in a warm pub or restaurant to taste similar food. The eateries were at very small take-away shops that were extremely limited in seating.
This tour was expensive for what we received in return. We really felt that aside from Alec's stories and knowledge that it was a total rip-off.

Very last minute cancellation - Extremely disappointed. We booked our tour eight months in advance. We received notification at 7:30 the day of our scheduled tour that was cancelled by the host. No stated reason. Company stated in the email that they tried to find a replacement but could not.

Not a food tour - Firstly, the description for this tour is completely inaccurate. It is not a food tour, it is a history tour with some food squeezed in. Alec was very knowledgeable about the history and was nice enough, but had very little inspiration about food. It was an hour into our tour before we even had a tasting. Instead of stopping at a variety of spots with explanations on the origin and gastronomy, we stopped at 3 places…we had expected 10 separate tastings, including a whiskey, since our meeting place was at a whiskey shop; however, we did not get 10 tastings, we got 7-haggis, 5 different pies and deep fried black pudding). The first of haggis was actually good and we started to feel that the tour may be more promising after all, even if late in the game. Unfortunately we didn’t have another tasting for a bit at the second stop, where he selected a bunch of different hand pies to try…like 5 different hand pies. Very heavy and little difference between them. Our last stop was at a place where we were encouraged to eat deep fried pizza. It was so disappointing as we had just had the most amazing food tour in Dublin. We had hoped for salmon, cheese, haggis and other delicacies Scotland may be know for. I do a food tour everywhere I go and this was the most disappointing and the most expensive to be frank. (For $450 Canadian we got maybe $70 worth in food but a 2.5 hour history lesson). The worst part is that my husband and I got sick from the food. We were both up all night ill. So disappointing and frustrating as we had limited time in Edinburgh and this took a big chunk of it, then ruined our night and next day. My recommendation is this not be advertised as a food tour…take the food out of it and keep it as a history tour. Mostly, change your description as it is very misleading.
