Great tour with a small group - EDI tours was just the right group size. John provided an interesting tour with lots of stories, historical information, and general information about Edinburgh. Using a wireless microphone system is very helpful. It made it so much easier to hear. I recommend joining an EDI tour when you are in Edinburgh.

Excellent tour with knowledgeable and enthusiastic tour guide - An excellent tour of the castle and grounds brought to life by our superb tour guide John who is obviously very knowledgeable about the history of the castle and Edinburgh itself. John's enthusiastic and friendly delivery went a long way to bringing the history of the castle to life, it even helped outweigh the wet and windy weather that we had throughout the tour! I would very much recommend this tour to anyone.

Excellent tour - This was a great tour of Edinburgh castle! Our excellent tour guide Sonia was very knowledgable on the history of the castle and the surrounding areas, she gave us a lot of information and had a great sense of humour. Her introduction to the castle was comprehensive and really interesting, and she even gave us a heads up about the Western Defences opening up again after 15 years. We took Sonia’s advice and walked the trail and it was the highlight of our experience at Edinburgh Castle. Overall I would highly recommend and Sonia was an excellent guide.

Lots of great information, very cold, windy and all outdoors - John, our tour guide, was very entertaining and knowledgeable. We were a small group, started at the Hume statue near St. Giles Cathedral and walked some distance up the Royal Mile. Once inside the castle gates we proceeded around the exterior, stopping at various points where John told us about the many battles and sieges that took place here, the additions to the buidings as the soldiers' numbers swelled from 600 to 1200, the hospital buildings and lodgings where a small military contingent still is housed. We were surprised that the entire two-hour tour took place outside, and unfortunately it was extremely cold and very windy with occasional rain which of course was not John's fault. At the end we could enter various buildings on our own - the great hall, prison and a military museum. But we were too cold and tired to do so, and it was 3 p.m. when it ended. We would recommend checking the forecast carefully and being aware that as you progress upward the wind and cold increase significantly. We also would recommend an earlier start than 1 p.m. so there is more time afterwards to explore the buildings.
