We will begin on a cycle path that leads us along The Union Canal, passing canal boats, original 19th-century bridges, and rowers in training.
We then descend onto a cycle ramp that takes us to The Water of Leith, a picturesque walkway/cycle path that passes under aqueducts, by allotments, and through the rejuvenated Saughton Park with its original Bandstand.
We’ll pass by Scotland’s National Rugby Stadium, Murrayfield, and continue towards Dean Village, a World Heritage site. Here, you’ll see Thomas Telfer’s bridge and the original Edinburgh School Board house.
Leith will come into view, where we’ll stop for a refreshment right beside the famous harbour. We then head towards Portobello Beach, offering views of Fife across the Firth of Forth Estuary.
Our final landmark is the impressive ‘Innocent Tunnel’ railway path, built in 1860.

Why choose A wee pedal? We’re a recognized winner of Visit Scotland’s ‘Best outdoor experience’ award, lauded for delivering high-quality experiences for guests while aiding the local community. Our cycling tour is one-of-a-kind, involving a meticulously designed 20-mile route, primarily off-road, that reveals the unseen parts of Edinburgh. As our starting point is directly on the cycle path, we don’t require vehicles, solidifying our status as a carbon-neutral company. We maintain small group sizes to ensure personalized attention and safety, and our certified, seasoned guides make learning about this historic city a delightful experience. The journey begins in the core of Craigmillar Castle grounds, a location close to the city center that’s easily reachable by walking, bus, taxi, or car (complimentary parking is available). E-bikes are available for rental at an extra cost of £20pp cash on the day. Please let me know if you are interested in this option. (For a shorter tour, consider our ‘family-friendly cycle tour to the coast,’ a 3-hour, 12-mile ride.)
