Highlights
  • Balquhidder - After leaving Edinburgh, the journey heads north through the central belt of Scotland. The guide will share captivating stories about Scotland’s historical figures like William Wallace and Robert the Bruce, who once roamed this region. Along the way, you’ll see royal palaces, the mythical Kelpies, and the ancient Stirling Castle. The first stop is surrounded by the lush hills of Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. Take a break, enjoy a coffee or some baked treats, and refresh before continuing north.
  • Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park - As the tour travels through the ‘Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park,’ the bus winds through hills, mountains, and glens. These remote areas were once home to Highland Clans and Scotland’s famous outlaw, Rob Roy MacGregor, often likened to the Scottish Robin Hood. As you gaze across the landscape, the guide will share thrilling tales of betrayal and revenge. If lucky, there might be a chance to stop for a selfie with the famous ‘Hairy Highland Coos.’
  • Glencoe - Glencoe is the site of one of Scotland’s most infamous massacres. The haunting hills and the eerie silence of the Glen tell a story of a 17th-century betrayal. The guide will recount the sorrowful events that took place here. Despite its tragic history, Glencoe remains one of Scotland’s most stunning landscapes and a highlight of any Highlands tour.
  • Fort William - The tour continues through Fort William, passing the majestic Ben Nevis, the tallest mountain in the British Isles. The Nevis Range looms over the winding road as the journey proceeds to Glenfinnan.
  • Glenfinnan Viaduct - The iconic Glenfinnan Viaduct spans 1000 feet, carrying the railway 100 feet above the ground towards Glenfinnan Station. This viewpoint is also where Prince Charles Edward Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlie) raised his standard before the 1745 Jacobite Rebellion. Climb to the top of the monument for the best views of the Glen, as the guide narrates the dramatic story of the ‘Young Pretender’ and his impact on European history.

For many, the viaduct is famous for its appearance in the Harry Potter film series. The aim is to arrive in time to see the Hogwarts Express (Jacobite Steam Train) cross the viaduct. Note that the Jacobite Steam Train operates seasonally (06.05.2024-27.09.2024, schedule subject to change).

  • Commando Monument - The route includes a stop at the Commando Memorial, a 1942 training ground for Britain’s Special Forces. The statue of the heroes overlooks the Nevis range, making it a perfect photo-stop. Weather permitting, Ben Nevis, the tallest mountain in the UK, can also be seen.
  • Cairngorms National Park - Heading south, the tour travels through Cairngorms National Park, home to red squirrels, roe deer, red deer, soaring buzzards, pine martens, golden eagles, and ospreys. The final stop of the day is Pitlochry.
  • Pitlochry - Pitlochry is nestled in the heart of Highland Perthshire’s stunning scenery. The town lies below Beinn Bhracaigh (Ben Vrackie) and beside the River Tummel, surrounded by magnificent landscapes. It is an excellent area for walking, with hills and beautiful woodlands.
  • Forth Bridge - As the tour re-enters Edinburgh from the north, you will see Scotland’s greatest engineering marvel and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Forth Bridge. This 19th-century engineering feat was once the world’s longest cantilever bridge. It now stands alongside the 20th-century Forth Road Bridge and the 21st-century Queensferry Crossing, which opened in 2017. These three spectacular bridges span the Firth of Forth, connecting the capital city with the Kingdom of Fife.
  • Edinburgh - The tour concludes with a drop-off in the city centre, with an estimated arrival time of 7 PM. Please note that this can be affected by traffic and other factors beyond control. It is recommended to allow 2 hours between the expected arrival time and any onward travel or reservations, as individual drop-offs are not available.
