8 day tour with Cara - We had a fantastic trip, and our guide, Cara, was excellent. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and funny, plus she did an amazing job driving us around safely, down some very narrow and winding roads. The accommodations on the trip were all great, clean, quiet and comfortable. The breakfasts were all excellent too. We had plenty of time to see all the attractions we wanted to see, and even saw a few things we weren't expecting to see. I wouldn't hesitate to book the same tour again.

8 Days of Wonder - We had the most fabulous tour guide in Louise. She was a fountain of knowledge and told the most amazing stories. Scotland is a beautiful country and I can’t wait to come back and see it again. Louise took us to some incredible places like Dunrobin Castle, The kelpies, up to the Orkneys to see Skara Brae, the Ring of Brodgar and the Standing Stones of Steness. Highly recommend this tour and if you get the lovely Louise as your guide you are in good hands.

10/10 Tour - Had Louise as our guide and she was outstanding! Very knowledgeable and had a good sense of humour. She also told the stories and gave the information very well. For anyone who is lucky to get Louise in future tours be well prepared for some dad jokes 😆

Great memories - Being a couple of kiwis we absolutely made the right decision to choose highland explorer tours on this 8 day tour in May.Rich was the ultimate guide and went out of his way to accommodate us on the trip, for example he took us to the falkirk wheel which wasn't on the itinerary and was on our bucket list. Our fellow passengers were all great. We especially liked Oban and Inverness, make sure you have dinner at a pub with traditional music,The Highlander pub in Inverness is a must visit with the live music and great food. .The accommodation exceeded our expectations. We highly recommend this tour .Once again THANK YOU RICH

Superb!!!!!!!!!!!! - The 8 day Orkney, Skye and North Coast 500 with Highland Explorer was superb in itself, but Steve our tour leader added an extra brilliance to it. His deep love for the Highlands and Islands was infectious. On most of the route there was constantly changing beautiful scenery and he kept us entertained with his knowledge of history and legends, his varied playlist, and his often wickedly funny anecdotes and jokes. He managed to fit into the already well-packed, advertised schedule little extras, such as the on-going archaeological dig to see walls 5500- year-old, a zip wire for the teenage member of the group and petting highland cattle. He also fitted in little detours to out-of-the-way places he had discovered by himself, such as the island where many clan chiefs are buried. We are glad to say that Steve could not provide the shopping malls and Disneyland experiences that the passenger from Sarasota FL seemed to expect. The route was efficiently planned and the accommodation was universally immaculately clean, well-maintained and friendly, although rather compact and sometimes quaint. It was always located within easy walking distance of a variety of local food and drink. Steve was always able to point out good places to eat and where we might find local live music, which was on more than one person’s wish-list. He gave excellent information about activities we might choose for his day off in Oban, enabling some to visit a distillery, some to spot puffins and other wild life and some to explore the town on foot. We had a few opportunities for short walks to viewpoints, and Steve knew when to be there to avoid crowds. At least five of us are well into our 70s but had no difficulty with these walks and we found them well worth the small effort. We were amazingly lucky with mostly clear, clement weather, with our wonderful guide Steve and a truly companionable group (apart from one). A bunch of 25-year-olds would have fitted right in too, though.

The 8-Day Highlands Tour with Steve was Incredible - This small group tour was amazing! We visited even more sites than I expected, and all were worthwhile. Many were spectacular! Steve’s friendly commentary, stories and music playlist were icing on the cake. In addition to multiple stops each day that often included some free time, we had evenings on our own to explore the towns where we stayed. Accommodations were clean, comfortable and safe, and most offered a cooked breakfast. Most of our group, including my husband and I, were 60+. Except for one, all were willing and physically able to visit the sites up close, which sometimes meant walking/light hiking 15-20 minutes or so. If you have physical limitations or would prefer not to be active, this might not be the tour for you. But if you want to experience and embrace the magic and beauty of the highlands, I highly recommend this small group tour with Steve!

Stellar experience, hands down - If you want to have a Fantastic trip and an experience of a lifetime, then go with Highland Explorer Tours and Steve will ABSOLUTELY ensure that. My mother, nephew & I took the 8-day tour and would take it another 10 times with Highland Explorer Tours. Our guide, the highly-esteemed Steve, was phenomenal, hands down. Besides his effortless maneuvering of the van (crazy highland single-track roads), while dropping knowledge, he also provided a fantastic playlist. He had everyone in the van laughing, telling jokes & singing; quickly bonding as a group. This tour brought us to all of my Mom’s ‘bucket list’ places & showed us locations that should have been on that list; just Gorgeous- It also saved me from the concern of driving & organizing it all myself. It was Absolutely worth it, 100%. The accommodations were clean, comfortable & helpful with questions about operating showers & toilet buttons. Some rooms were jaw-droppingly gorgeous & I even got a deep, long tub one night! 💙 I didn’t always sleep great because it was a different bed than my own, but there was always plenty of coffee every morning, I couldn’t let a little sleepiness hold me down. It should be noted that a fellow traveler (a female from Sarasota,FL) didn’t like her B&B & had a meltdown much later the following day. She completely exploded on Steve, taking Everyone off guard, yelling & even swearing in front of a minor. I feel Steve handled the situation well & diffused the tension over the break & in the van afterwards. Her claims were shocking, unfounded and completely out of line that she was being singled out & treated “like $#^%”. My guess is that she was dealing with something else entirely, that had nothing to do with the trip and focused that rage on Steve. Poor guy, seriously- everyone Loves him. Anyone traveling should be aware of general safety policies, everyone off the bus & locking it up is designed to protect everyone’s belongings. Also be prepared when traveling to Scotland, do your homework- there are pubs everywhere (bring earplugs, use the extra pillow on your head), it rains, there’s bugs that’ll bite you (midges) and the food is different (bring something to aide digestion, just in case). We lucked out on all fronts in my opinion but the key is flexibility to have a good time. There’s a lot of walking & some stairs so bring walking sticks to spare you knees, if needed. So again, if you WANT to have an Amazing, Fantastic trip and/or a Stellar Experience of a Lifetime -Please- go with Highland Explorer Tours and Steve will Absolutely ensure that.

North Coast 500 - A wonderful trip from start to finish. Our driver/guide was friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and fun to be with. Cara was a considerate driver on the narrow roads. She ordered ahead for us so we could enjoy fresh lobster at a pop-up cafe. The accommodation was comfortable and there were plenty of places to choose our evening meals.

Disappointing - There were too many stops squeezed into a day, making arrival at our stay for the night difficult to get a good restaurant for dinner. The title of this tour includes Isle of Skye. It would have been nice to spend half to a full day there in order to see the Fairy Pools. That was one thing I was really looking forward to. Our driver/guide was rude when answering questions. She could have been better informed.

Beautiful scenery - I tried to get the hotel info in advance but they kept telling me it would be closer to the time. An hour ahead each day was the earliest I found out where we were staying. Consequently the hotel standard was not what I expected and we could have done the same tour for much less money. They were one star accommodations and one of our rooms was on an alley next to a divey pub. If I had received the hotel info when I booked the tour I would not have booked this tour. We arrived at 5pm or 6pm each day so had little time in the towns except to eat and sleep. 3pm would have been better. Much too much time cliff hiking for me. The tour description did not specify that I would not be able to sit on the bus if I didn’t want to hike or stand in the rain. Best for 25 year olds.
