Sherlock's Secret Challenge: An Intriguing Puzzle Game Revealing Edinburgh's Story

Unravel Edinburgh’s secrets with Sherlock’s Secret Challenge. Solve escape room-style puzzles, explore the city, and dive into Arthur Conan Doyle’s history.

Duration: 2 hours, 45 minutes
Cancellation: 1 day learn more
Highlights
  • Edinburgh New Town - A game, a walk and a different way to learn some history.

Together with your team you will have to make good use of the kit provided to work through all the puzzles. Each will let you know where to go next, you will collect some interesting tidbits on some of the characters you’ll meet along the way before the grand finale. Logic, deduction and walking are big parts of this game.

The game will finish in the West End of Town. The duration varies greatly from group to group, most groups can finish in under 3h but for some groups its a lot more. You will be in touch with the host via WhatsApp so you need to bring a phone with internet access. Help will be offered throughout by the host but its up to you to ask. By joining you are committing to returning the kit and the end location.

We take groups of up to 7, we think its best with 2-5 players. Children 12 or under don’t need to pay a ticket. The game is complex and we think its not a good fit for those ages but parents know best.

If you’re looking for something different check out our other games: The Pirate’s Riddle and Fantastic Creatures of Edinburgh, also on TripAdvisor.

What's Included

Additional Information

The games resemble those encountered in a puzzle room, but with a twist: you’ll navigate through the narrative of Arthur Conan Doyle’s era in Edinburgh, gleaning fascinating insights throughout the journey. Our treasure hunts distinguish themselves from the rest as we furnish participants with a physical pack, integrating objects with the city’s permanent aspects for gameplay. You’ll solely require your phone for reaching out to the game master for assistance if you encounter any difficulties. A brainchild of local tour guides with a love for gaming, this business is a labor of love, on a smaller scale.

Location
York Place

A fun way to explore the city - It was really fun, quite challenging especially as there was only two of us, however we were able to get hints and had a really good day exploring the city. They also sent us some recommendations of where to go next once we had finished, which was really nice. Thank you!

Feels like Sherlock Holmes - Great fun, even for a bunch of complete newbies like us. We were right in thinking, though it was always about good observation skill. Definitely recommended - though good weather is a preferred companion.

We came for the puzzles! - The puzzles were the perfect amount of difficulty for us. We love escape rooms and we love puzzles. But it turns out there’s a lot more. You get to walk through a lot of the city and learn about Sherlock and Conan Doyle! We found lots of quirks about Edinburgh that we would have otherwise missed

Incredible puzzle activity! - Absolutely amazing experience! I've seen the poster a few times on previous trips to Edinburgh and finally tried a challenge as a birthday gift/activity for my Mother with my Brother and fiancée (locals). Fantastic way to show my Mum the city with really clever and enjoyable clues to crack along the way. We've done a few rooms before and there were still so many puzzles we haven't seen before which was fantastic. Sabi was amazing throughout, guiding when we needed without giving too much away so we didn't feel cheated. Can't wait to try the other challenges when we visit in future.

Excellent puzzling around Edinburgh with a Conan Doyle theme. - We loved the Conan Doyle puzzle experience around Edinburgh. The puzzles were challenging but also accessible and opened up areas of the City that we had not seen before.

Fun and challenging in equal measures - Excellent way to spend a few hours exploring the city. Certainly something "a little different" if that's what you're looking for.

Felt stupid - It was kind of fun but very frustrating as we had a hard time figuring things out and had to constantly contact our point person. We were told it would take 2-3 hours. We thought we had plenty of time before our next activity. 5 hours later we had to give up where we were and missed our next activity. Definitely made me feel stupid and incompetent and I have a bachelors degree.
