Amazing day out - I brought my son here for his 6th birthday and he loved it ! the tour/ informational part was great, lots of interesting facts plus it was well timed that it didn’t get too boring. The chocolate bar making experience was super fun, there were loads of options to make you own unique bar and everything was very well explained. The tasting part was probably my favourite bit, the staff were super well informed on the products and the passion about their work came through when they were talking. The only thing I thought could of been better was a little longer to try the samples at the end as my son struggled to get in to try things as it was a small room with lots of people in it but other than that it was an amazing experience.

Funny ginger wizard - I really rate the ginger chocolate wizard. He’s really nice considering he’s from Leeds. He’s funny too XD
Even though this activity doesn’t really have anything to do with Edinburgh I recommend it to tourists!

McKenzie… The Professor Willow of the Wonka World! - We had a fab time on this tour, pitched at the right level for all those there from families, to couples & friend groups. Lots of different chocolate to try on the tour & super helpful staff in the shop as well. 100% recommend.
Side note: Some mild bullying for my love of the dark chocolate bounty but all was evened out when Mckenzie was informed he was also losing his fav chilli & lime chocolate bar 🤣

Chocolate tasting was great! - I took my daughter and her friend as a birthday treat for my daughter's friend.
We really enjoyed learning about the history of chocolate...then making the chocolate bars before tasting some unusual flavours of chocolate.
Great couple of hours entertainment for both adults and children.

A fantastic experience, enthusiastic staff and a fun activity - My boyfriend booked this tour, and we were greeted by the kind and energetic hostess who let us put our stuff in lockers before we took a seat in the room where she welcomed us to the tour. She let us taste some chocolate milk and other chocolates while explaining some information about fair trade, how chocolate is made and even had a real cacao bean for us, which we could touch, smell and look at while passing it on to the other guests. After her explanation, we went into the factory room, where she explained about certain machinery, let us taste actual roasted cacao beans, and told us about the process of making (our own) chocolate. We could pick either dark or milk and decorate it with whatever toppings we liked. After that, we went back into the room we came from to listen to some more informative words, before moving to the tasting room. In the tasting room we tasted the difference between chocolates and their origin regions, among with an ancient brewing and some tea. After that we could pick a few from the 70 different kinds of chocolates to taste and discuss it with the group. In the end we received our cooled chocolate bars and that was the tour.
The hostess was very friendly and energetic, and the tour itself was very informative, fun, and a good experience

Brilliant experience - My wife and I really enjoyed this experience. It was great to learn about chocolate production and history. We loved the tasting and making our own bars. I’d highly recommend. It was a good pace and we felt we had enough time there. Great tour guide - knowledgable and friendly.

Learning and doing! - A great combination of learning and doing!
Interesting and important lesson about the origin of different types of cacao, and of the importance of fair trade.
Testing a lot of different types of chocolate, learing how to recognize different origin of beans and the reason behind the different tastes and more. Most fun for the children is obviously the making of your own chocolate bar, choosing between dark and milky and adding different toppings. We really enjoyed it!

Small, sweet and great - We visited The Chocolatarium based on Trip Advisor reviews, and were not disappointed.
One reviewer said it was hard to find, but we didn't have this issue at all.
It is small, and a little different to what I expected, but this didn't detract at all from the experience.
We were in a group of about 20 people, which I worried would be too many, but was actually fine. There are lockers etc.. for putting your things, which was really useful.
The staff were all really polite and helpful, and fully engaging.
Our tour guide was Sandy, who was brilliant. The tour starts with a talk about the origins of chocolate, and the different types and includes tasting etc..
You then move on to the factory, which is a small room about 5m x 5m, where you make your own chocolate bars with moulds and an array of different toppings. We all loved this.
After this, while your chocolate is setting, you move into the tasting room, and are presented with more history and then the chance to try a selection from the numerous types and flavours of chocolate they have on the wall. Again, this was amazing.
While the building is small, and compact, it didn't impact the enjoyment at all and we all had a really good time. While it wasn't cheap (£100 for 5 of us), I didn't mind as it was clearly supporting a small business that was doing a great job.
At the end of our trip to Edinburgh, which involved a lot of activities, this rated top with our kids.
