- Memphis Tours - Memphis (Arabic: مَنْف, romanized: Manf, pronounced [mænf]; Bohairic Coptic: ⲙⲉⲙϥⲓ; Greek: Μέμφις), also known as Men-nefer, served as the ancient capital of Inebu-hedj, the first nome of Lower Egypt, referred to as mḥw (“North”). Its remnants are situated near the contemporary village of Mit Rahina (Arabic: ميت رهينة), in the Badrashin county, Giza, Egypt. This modern name likely originates from the late Ancient Egyptian name for Memphis, mjt-rhnt, meaning “Road of the Ram-Headed Sphinxes”.
Together with the pyramid fields that extend over a desert plateau for more than 30 kilometers (19 mi) to its west, including the renowned Pyramids of Giza, they are recognized as the World Heritage Site Memphis and its Necropolis. The site is accessible to the public as an open-air museum.
