Highlights
  • Sodomb - The Valley of Medicinal Waters has a well-earned reputation for its salt hill, created and shaped to this very day by the medicinal waters bubbling up from the depths of the earth. There are only two other locations in the entire world with comparable natural phenomena: Pamukkale in Turkey, and Yellowstone National Park in the US. In other words, as long as you’re in Hungary, it would be a great pity to let this opportunity go by. The 1,200-square-metre salt hill
  • created by the thermal water rising to the surface from a depth of 410 metres with a temperature of 65-68 degrees Celsius
  • can be seen from up close, right next to the path starting from the parking lot of the Nostalgia Baths. As for those who want to bathe, the Saliris Resort Medicinal and Wellness Spa welcomes them with open arms. The spa pools have a direct line of sight on to the salt hill. The water contains 30 different trace minerals, its most important components being calcium, sodium, magnesium and sulphur.

Additional Information

The Medicinal Waters Valley is renowned for its unique salt mound, formed by the therapeutic waters welling up from the earth’s core.

Equivalents of this rare display of nature can only be found in Pamukkale in Turkey, and the Yellowstone National Park in the U.S. Essentially, it would be an unfortunate loss to miss this spectacle while in Hungary. The 1,200-square-meter salt mound, forged by the geothermal water surfacing from 410 meters deep at a temperature of 65-68 degrees Celsius, is conveniently visible from a close viewing point on the route from Nostalgia Baths’ parking zone.

If you wish to go for a swim, the Saliris Resort Medicinal and Wellness Spa is readily available. The spa’s pools offer a direct view of the salt mound. The water is enriched with a sum of 30 mineral traces, mainly consisting of calcium, sodium, magnesium, and sulfur.

Eger Bathes & Castle - Our tour guide, Richard, was always courteous, knowledgeable, and very friendly. We enjoyed the entire trip.

Unique experience - Eger was interesting and quaint but the baths were the icing on the cake for us. Could’ve spent all day there. Bring a towel, flip flops and try the different pools.

History and relaxation - Hungary - Professionally organised by Richard, our guide (and driver). Richard provided information and history (nicely balanced) en route from Budapest to Eger then Egerszalok. The 90min ride was very comfortable. The Eger city tour was interesting, then we went around the castle district on our own. The thermal baths were well organised, it was relaxing and a new experience for us.

Relaxing day tour out of Budapest with a professional and amazing host! - What a fun day! Richard picked us up right at 9:30 AM from our hotel and we began our drive to Eger. Richard gave us a lot of great information on the drive out of Budapest and was very friendly the whole day. We arrived in Eger and toured the Old Town before heading up to the Castle. For history buffs, this castle is a must see. A famous Hungarian battle took place here, and the story is told throughout the castle ruins. Great views of Eger can be had from the castle mount. We then went to the Salaris Resort. Richard helped us navigate the resort since not many people spoke English here. We enjoyed our time at the resort, trying different hot baths and pools. The resorts restaurant was closed for a time, but handed out sandwiches for us to eat for lunch. When we were finished, Richard drove us back to Budapest, and at our request, dropped us off at the City Park, ending our tour. Richard made this whole day just perfect. His driving was comfortable, and his English was very good. I highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to break away from the city and have a more relaxing day in Hungary.

Not worth a whole day - The resort/hot springs was nice but two hours is not enough time to enjoy the baths, check out the salt pools and have lunch. Also you don’t really get to see Eger just walk through it to get to the small castle area which was under renovation.
