Arrival in Aswan - Nile Cruise and Aswan Day Tour
Aswan Governorate - A Let’s Discover Egypt representative will greet you at your hotel in Aswan, Aswan airport, or railway station. You will then be transferred to board your 5-star Nile cruise before lunch. Enjoy lunch on board, followed by visits to the High Dam and Philae Temple. Dinner will be served on board, accompanied by a folkloric show. Overnight stay in Aswan. Meals: Lunch, Dinner.
Note: If your arrival in Aswan or pick-up time is early (recommended), the tour will commence immediately upon arrival, as the cruise check-in time is at 12:00 PM. This ensures guests do not waste time waiting in the lobby and helps avoid the heat.
Aswan High Dam - Begin your day tour with a visit to the High Dam, completed in 1960 to protect Egypt from flooding and generate electricity. Prepare for an awe-inspiring experience, as the Aswan High Dam is truly remarkable. The dam measures 3,800 meters in length, 980 meters in thickness at the base, and 111 meters in height at its tallest point. Behind it lies Lake Nasser, the world’s largest man-made lake, providing irrigation water and electricity for all of Egypt. Located 13 km south of Aswan, you will then drive to visit the Philae Temple.
Temple of Philae - Continue to the Philae Temple, a Greco-Roman temple dedicated to the goddess Isis, accessed by a small motorboat. This stunning temple complex is one of Egypt’s most picturesque sites. Situated on Aglika Island just south of the old Aswan Dam, the temple was relocated to its current location after the construction of the High Dam threatened to submerge it. The meticulous reconstruction preserved the original appearance and layout of the complex, even landscaping the island to match its former location. Philae gained prominence during the Ptolemaic Dynasty as the center of the cult of the goddess Isis. It was one of the last places where the ancient religion persisted after Christianity arrived in Egypt, officially closing only in 551 AD. Early Christians later used the main temple on the island as a church. Return to your Nile cruise and overnight in Aswan.
Kom Ombo Temple
Temple of Kom Ombo - Enjoy breakfast on board, followed by leisure time until the afternoon, or opt for optional tours to visit Abu Simbel Temple or the Nubian village. In the afternoon, the Nile cruise will set sail for Kom Ombo city, a journey of approximately 3 hours during which you can enjoy tea time on the sundeck. Upon arrival in Kom Ombo city, visit the Temple of Kom Ombo. The temple and its associated settlement site are located 45 km north of Aswan. The temple was dedicated to the god Sobek Raa, the crocodile god, and the god Horus the Elder. Built in 180 B.C. by the Ptolemaic dynasty during the Roman invasion, the Temple of Kom Ombo is uniquely positioned on the riverbank between Edfu and Aswan, making it a wonderful stop for Nile cruises. Sail to Edfu, enjoy dinner on board, and participate in a Galabeya Party. Overnight in Edfu town.
Edfu Temple & Luxor East Bank
Temple of Horus - After breakfast on board, visit the Edfu Temple, the most well-preserved temple in Egypt, dedicated to the hawk-god Horus. The construction of the Ptolemaic Temple of Horus, founded on the site of a much earlier temple, dates back to the period between the reigns of Ptolemy III (237 B.C.). The wall inscriptions include the myth of the contention between Horus and Seth, likely performed annually as a religious drama. Return to the cruise, relax on the sundeck, and admire the beautiful scenery of the Nile River while sailing to Luxor. Cross the Esna Lock, enjoy lunch on board, and afternoon tea on the sundeck.
Temple of Karnak - By late afternoon, arrive in Luxor city and embark on a tour of the Karnak temples. Karnak is more than a temple; it is a spectacular complex of sanctuaries, kiosks, pylons, and obelisks, all dedicated to the Theban gods and the greater glory of Egypt’s pharaohs. Karnak was the most important place for the worship of the Theban Triad (Amun, Mut, and Khonso). Then drive to enjoy the Luxor Temple. Note: If your Nile cruise arrives in Luxor by 3:00 or 3:30 PM, you will have the opportunity to visit both Karnak and Luxor Temples on the East Bank of Luxor. If not, the visit will be scheduled for the next day after the West Bank.
Luxor Temple - After visiting the Karnak Temples, proceed to the Luxor Temple, largely built by the New Kingdom Pharaoh Amenhotep III of the 18th dynasty and completed by King Tutankhamun and the great King Ramses II. The first pylon was raised by Ramses II and decorated with scenes from his military Battle of Kadesh. Dinner on board, followed by a folkloric show. Overnight in Luxor.
Check-out & West Bank Visit
Colossi of Memnon - Enjoy breakfast on board, check out from the Nile cruise, and drive to explore the west bank of Luxor. Begin with a photo stop at the Colossi of Memnon, two magnificent twin statues representing Pharaoh Amenhotep III, with two smaller statues at his feet (one of his wife and the other his mother). These statues stand gracefully on the horizon of Luxor. Each statue measures 60 feet tall and stands at the entrance of Amenhotep III’s mortuary temple. They are famously named the Colossi of Memnon due to a phenomenon produced by one of the statues after an earthquake. Originally built in the Theban Necropolis west of the Nile River in modern Luxor, then drive to the Hatshepsut Temple.
- Hot Air Balloon Ride Over Luxor West Bank (Optional Tour)
Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahari - Visit the Queen Hatshepsut Temple and discover her beautiful temple and intriguing story with her nephew. Rising out of the desert plain in a series of terraces, the Temple of Hatshepsut merges with the sheer limestone cliffs of the eastern face of the Theban Mountain, as if nature itself had built this extraordinary monument. Then drive to visit the Valley of the Kings.
Valley of the Kings - Arrive at the Valley of the Kings, known as the Great Place of Truth, now called the Valley of the Kings. This majestic domain of the pharaohs once held great stone sarcophagi, awaiting immortality. Explore the complex and see the tombs and resting places of remarkable Egyptian kings such as Merneptah, Ramesses III, and Ramesses VI. Then transfer to Luxor railway station, airport, or your hotel in Luxor.
