Arrive To Aswan - Nile Cruise And Aswan Day Tour
Aswan Governorate - A Let’s Discover Egypt representative will meet you at your Aswan hotel, the airport, or the railway station. You’ll then be transferred to board your 5-star Nile cruise before lunch. Enjoy lunch on board, followed by visits to the High Dam and Philae Temple. Dinner will be served on board, followed by a folkloric show. Overnight stay in Aswan. Meals: Lunch, Dinner. Note: If you arrive in Aswan early (recommended), we will start the tour immediately upon arrival to avoid waiting for the cruise check-in at 12:00 PM and to dodge the afternoon heat.
Aswan High Dam - Begin your day tour with a visit to the High Dam, completed in 1960 to protect Egypt from flooding and to generate electricity. The Aswan High Dam is an impressive sight, measuring 3800 meters in length, 980 meters thick at the base, and 111 meters tall at its highest point. Behind it lies Lake Nasser, the world’s largest man-made lake, which provides irrigation water and electricity for all of Egypt. Located 13 km south of Aswan, you will then drive to visit the unfinished obelisk.
Unfinished Obelisk - The Unfinished Obelisk offers a rare glimpse into the challenging process of shaping and carving the massive stone blocks used in Egypt’s monuments. This enormous obelisk, intended to stand 140 feet tall, was to be carved from the Red Aswan granite. However, a flaw in the rock was discovered late in its formation, leading to its abandonment. It remains in one of Aswan’s ancient quarries, fully formed and carved on three sides but still attached to the bedrock on the fourth. Archaeologists believe this obelisk was meant for Karnak, but it has stayed in the quarry for thousands of years. You will then drive to visit Philae Temple.
Temple of Philae - Continue to Philae Temple, a Greco-Roman temple dedicated to the goddess Isis, accessible by a small motorboat. This picturesque temple complex is located on Aglika Island, just south of the old Aswan Dam. The temple was relocated to its current site to prevent submersion due to the High Dam’s construction. The reconstruction preserved the original appearance and layout, even landscaping the island to match its former location. Philae rose to prominence during the Ptolemaic Dynasty as the center of the cult of Isis and was one of the last places where the ancient religion survived after Christianity arrived in Egypt, officially closing in 551 AD. Early Christians then used the main temple as a church. Return to your Nile cruise and overnight in Aswan.
Kom Ombo Temple visit.
Temple of Kom Ombo - After breakfast on board, enjoy free time until the afternoon, or opt for an optional tour to Abu Simbel Temple or the Nubian village. In the afternoon, the Nile cruise will sail to Kom Ombo city, a journey of about 3 hours. Enjoy tea time on the sundeck during the sail. Upon arrival, visit the Temple of Kom Ombo, dedicated to the crocodile god Sobek and the falcon god Horus the Elder. Built in 180 B.C. by the Ptolemaic dynasty during the Roman invasion, the temple is uniquely situated on the riverbank between Edfu and Aswan, making it a popular stop for Nile cruises. Sail to Edfu, have dinner on board, and enjoy a Galabeya Party. Overnight in Edfu town.
Edfu Temple & Luxor East Bank
Temple of Horus - After breakfast on board, visit Edfu Temple, the best-preserved temple in Egypt, dedicated to the hawk-god Horus. The Ptolemaic temple of Horus, founded on the site of an earlier temple, dates back to the reign of Ptolemy III (237 B.C.). The walls depict the myth of the contention between Horus and Seth, likely performed annually as a religious drama. Return to the cruise, relax on the sundeck, and admire the Nile’s beautiful scenery while sailing to Luxor. Cross Esna Lock, have lunch on board, and enjoy afternoon tea on the sundeck.
Karnak Open Air Museum - Arrive in Luxor by late afternoon and visit Karnak Temples, a spectacular complex of sanctuaries, kiosks, pylons, and obelisks dedicated to the Theban gods and the glory of Egypt’s pharaohs. Karnak was the most important place for worship of the Theban Triad (Amun, Mut, and Khonsu). Then drive to Luxor Temple. Note: If your Nile cruise arrives in Luxor by 3:00 or 3:30 PM, you can visit both Karnak and Luxor Temples on the East Bank of Luxor. If not, the visit will be scheduled for the next day after the West Bank tour.
Luxor Temple - After visiting Karnak Temples, proceed to Luxor Temple, largely built by New Kingdom Pharaoh Amenhotep III of the 18th dynasty and completed by King Tutankhamun and Ramses II. The first pylon was raised by Ramses II and decorated with scenes from his military Battle of Kadesh. Dinner on board, followed by a folkloric show. Overnight in Luxor.
Check out & West Bank Visit
Colossi of Memnon - After breakfast on board, check out from the Nile cruise and drive to explore the West Bank of Luxor. Start with a photo stop at the Colossi of Memnon, two magnificent twin statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, each standing 60 feet tall. These statues, originally built in the Theban Necropolis, stand at the entrance of Amenhotep III’s mortuary temple. They are named after a phenomenon produced by one of the statues after an earthquake. Then drive to Hatshepsut Temple. Optional hot air balloon ride over Luxor West Bank is available upon request.
Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahari - Visit the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, rising out of the desert plain in a series of terraces. The temple merges with the limestone cliffs of the Theban Mountain, creating an extraordinary monument. Then drive to the Valley of the Kings.
Valley of the Kings - Arrive at the Valley of the Kings, known as the Great Place of Truth. This majestic domain of the pharaohs contains the tombs and resting places of remarkable Egyptian kings such as Merneptah, Ramesses III, and Ramesses VI. After exploring the valley, transfer to Luxor railway station, airport, or your hotel in Luxor. Lunch is not included.
