- Ek Balam Village - Our journey begins at the ancient Mayan site of Ek Balam, also known as the “Black Jaguar.” This classic period site features a tomb entrance built for an ancient king and various temples that you can climb, all guided by our expert archaeological guides.
- Rio Lagartos - Next, we head to the Rio Lagartos Biosphere to board a boat and observe a variety of bird species, including herons, fishing eagles, pelicans, and flamingos. Along the way, we might also encounter other coastal ecosystem inhabitants within the mangrove forests, such as crocodiles and raccoons.
- Las Coloradas - Finally, we visit the world-renowned Coloradas, or “magenta waters.” These pink lakes create a stunning contrast with the blue skies. The lakes’ vibrant pink color is due to red-colored algae, plankton, and brine shrimp that thrive in the salty environment. The flamingos are pink because they feed on these pink shrimp.

What an incredible day… 🤲 🦩🚤 🐊 - All I can say is WOW! 🤩 We did a full day private tour with Sal and it couldn’t have been better. From visiting Ek Balam to the pink salt flats to a great lunch of fresh seafood to seeing flamingos in the wild to a boat trip through Rio Lagartos, everything exceeded our expectations.
