El Alamein - At 6:00 am, you’ll be picked up from your hotel in Cairo by our expert tour guide and transferred to the western side of Egypt in a private air-conditioned vehicle. Leaving Cairo behind, we arrive in Alamein. Here, we visit the WWII Museum and the War Memorial, which contains uniforms, weapons, flags, and other war paraphernalia. The displays include photographs and the battle sites. We will also visit the El Alamein War Cemetery, where 7,367 men from Britain, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Greece, France, India, and Malaysia are buried in individual graves, while 11,945 men, whose bodies were never found, are commemorated. Additionally, we will visit the German War Memorial and the Italian Memorial. A light lunch will be served on the way.
Lake Siwa - Arrive in Siwa to catch the sunset at Fatnas Lake. Fatnas is a small island in Birket Siwa, a wonderful place to sit and enjoy the sunset. You will get a spectacular view of the lake with Gebel Bayda and Hamra forming the backdrop to the west. Dinner and overnight stay at our hotel in Siwa.
Siwa
Temple of the Oracle of Amun / Aghurmi - After breakfast at the hotel, you will be picked up at 7:00 am. We start with a visit to Alexander the Great’s Temple, also known as the Temple of the Oracle. It is believed that Alexander the Great wished to consult the Siwan oracle to seek confirmation that he was the son of Zeus, the Greek god of gods.
Salt Lakes - Next, we visit the salt lakes. The salty water makes you float effortlessly, so you don’t need to be a good swimmer. Be careful not to let the water reach your eyes. Choose the crystal lake, the purest one, which you will recognize because you can see the bottom. Keep a bottle of water with you to rinse off after swimming. The lakes have great healing properties, much stronger than regular seawater. In any case, you will have a wonderful swim!
Cleopatra’s Pool - Spring of Juba - Then we proceed to Cleopatra’s Bath, also known as the Spring of the Sun. Legend has it that Cleopatra swam here. We will have a lunch break to try some Siwan food at a local restaurant. Afterward, we head to the Great Sand Sea by 4x4 Jeep to enjoy sandboarding. Experience an adventure in the desert by discovering the best sand dunes for sandboarding in Egypt, located near the Siwa Oasis.
Siwa | Masra Matrouh | Cairo
Shali Fortress - After breakfast at the hotel or camp, we visit Shali Fort, built on a hill inside a protective wall. The maze of mud-brick buildings that comprise the fortress served the people of the oasis for nearly eight centuries. The inhabitants lived in narrow quarters, sharing their space with animals, which were herded into the fortress each evening.
Mountain of the Dead - Next, we proceed to the Mountain of the Dead, a conical mountain a little over a kilometer north of Shali. Tombs from the Twenty-Sixth Dynasty, Ptolemaic, and Roman periods are cut into the side of the mountain. There are four tombs you must see at Gebel Al Mawta, with the Tomb of Si Amun being the most beautiful.
Mersa Matruh - Later, we head back to Cairo, passing by Marsa Matrouh on the North Coast of Egypt for lunch.
