Unfulfilling tequila tour - The tour of the distillery to understand how tequila was was made was under 5mins. We spent 5mins talking about how the tequila is made but like 40mins hanging around in the gift & tequila shop till the point it felt uncomfortable not to buy anything. The prices there were not reasonable. In the tequila taste test, they spoke so quickly and it was broken english so hard to understand. They then took us to see the agave plants which again was a short stop. Took 2 photos and then we left. They then took us to this restaurant which was completely overpriced (average was 3-400 pesos per person for food & drink) when you can get it for 1/3 the price in town. They served predominantly seafood and I’m not sure why being an inland region, the tour operator would take us to a seafood restaurant rather than somewhere we could taste more of the local delicacy. This is a place a lot of the tour buses stop at so I think the tour operator gets a cut because there’s no way locals are paying these kinds of prices. The shrimp also tasted weeks old and was disgusting. I had to throw it out. They stopped here for more than 2 hours which was too comically long considering the most beautiful part of the tour, Tequila town was just a 1 hour stop. We also ended up getting there so late that traffic had started to pick up. I’d rather we have gone all the way there directly and ate. In terms of breakdown of time spent on the tour. We got picked up at 10 and got back by 7pm. 9 hours total of which 3 hours was transit time. 1 hours was free time to explore tequila town & the museum, 10mins was spent learning about the tequila process & plants and the rest was effectively stopping at random gift shops, restaurants and bars where the tour operator got a cut. That was where 4 of the 9 hours went. Overall the tour was disappointing for the amount of time and money invested.
