A Journey to the Heart of Arenal

As a seasoned surfer, I’ve spent countless hours riding the waves and soaking up the sun along the coasts of Central America. But every now and then, I crave a different kind of adventure, one that takes me away from the ocean’s embrace and into the heart of the land. That’s how I found myself in El Castillo, ready to embark on the Arenal Volcano Expedition.

The day began with a drive to the El Silencio Private Reserve, a place that promised to bring me as close to the Arenal Volcano as one could safely get. The anticipation was palpable as we approached the base of the volcano, the towering giant looming over us with an air of ancient mystery. Our guide, a local expert, shared stories of the volcano’s fiery past, painting vivid pictures of its first eruption in 1968 and the subsequent transformations of the landscape.
