Discovering Gavilan Village

As a seasoned traveler and surfer, I’ve always been drawn to the untamed beauty of Central America. The allure of the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano and the promise of a hidden waterfall in Gavilan Village was too tempting to resist. My wife and I, both adventurers at heart, decided to take a break from the waves and explore the lush rainforest that surrounds this volcanic wonder.

Gavilan Village, nestled on the northern side of the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano, is a place where nature reigns supreme. After about 25 minutes of hiking, we reached the highlight of our journey: El Santuario Waterfall. Also known as La Catedral, this majestic cascade is hidden away on the outskirts of the volcano. To reach it, we had to swim through a stunning turquoise river canyon, a refreshing and exhilarating experience that added to the adventure. The waterfall itself was a sight to behold, its waters tumbling down in a graceful dance, surrounded by the lush greenery of the rainforest.
