Highlights

From M’Hamid to Erg Chegaga: The Largest Sahara Sand Dunes in Morocco

Atmosphere Erg Chigaga Services - M’Hamid is the last village before the desert, and it’s a further 60 km to reach the Chigaga dunes. Our agency is located in the center of the village M’hamid.

Erg Chigaga - This largest group of dunes in the region reaches a height of 300 meters and extends for 40 kilometers. We spend the night directly in nomad tents at the dunes after a dinner party.

Erg Chigaga - M’Hamid

Erg Chigaga - A night that comes alive with the rhythms and chants of drums, castanets, and guitars played by nomads; traditional Sahara music. Inspired by the African spirit of dance combined with Arabic rhythm.

In the heart of the Nomads campsite, Erg Chegaga Lodge, we will have a big fire where we gather to share food, laughter, celebration, and friendship.

El Gouera - Admire the sunrise over the dunes and enjoy breakfast before departing with a 4×4. Visit Lac Iriqui, take a lunch break, and stop at panoramic viewpoints on our way back to M’Hamid.

Authentic Experience - I have the honor to write the first review here and will provide some informations: If you start the tour in the early morning, you pay extra. You will get to see how Nomads live, cook and you can drink tea with them. You also get to taste the bread they baked and when you arrive in the desert, you have a couple of more hours in the desert. I was able to communicate with my guide very flexible before the tour and was able to choose my pick up point as I wanted. English level is also sufficient enough. What I really appreciate about my guide is that he is honest and will tell you the naked truth about the desert and the nomads and doesn't emphasize for the sake of touristic experience. He also takes care of non-smokers and vegetarians. After arriving in the desert, I was allowed to walk around alone by myself, which is exactly what I wanted. I stayed at Bivouac Chez Ali, where I had a room with comfortable beds, which kept the warmth during the night. For dinner, I had a tasty Tagine which was quite a lot by volume. Wifi was provided, the only problem might be to find some outlets. In general, it was a very flexible and convenient tour and the price is fair. I really enjoyed it!
