Cairo Citadel - Also known as the Citadel of Saladin (Arabic: قلعة صلاح الدين, romanized: Qalaʿat Salāḥ ad-Dīn), this medieval Islamic fortification in Cairo, Egypt, was built by Salah ad-Din (Saladin) and expanded by later Egyptian rulers. It served as Egypt’s government seat and the residence of its rulers for nearly 700 years, from the 13th century until Abdeen Palace was built in the 19th century. Located on a promontory of the Mokattam hills near central Cairo, it offers a strategic view over the city and dominates the skyline. At the time of its construction, it was one of the most impressive and ambitious military fortifications. Today, it is a preserved historic site featuring mosques and museums.
Bazar Khan El-Khalili - Khan el-Khalili (Arabic: خان الخليلي) is a renowned bazaar and souq in Cairo’s historic center. Originating in the Mamluk era as a trade hub and named after one of its historic caravanserais, the bazaar has become a major attraction for both tourists and locals. It hosts numerous Egyptian artisans and workshops producing traditional crafts and souvenirs. While the name Khan el-Khalili originally referred to a single building, it now denotes the entire shopping district.
