Located on the Osum River, surrounded by mountains and hills including Tomorri mountain that was declared national park speaks amazing about the picturesque views that Berat city has to offer. Ceramic finds from the 7th century BCE attest to a settlement of the rocky hill of Berat by the Illyrians. Berat has been identified with the ancient Antipatrea. The name Berat has been derived through Albanian sound changes from the old Slavonic language Belgrad meaning “White cite”.
