Highlights
  • Little Adam’s Peak View Point - Don’t miss the stunning tourist spot in Sri Lanka, Little Adam’s Peak. Despite the name ‘Little,’ it is named after the sacred Adam’s Peak (Sri Pada – where the footprint of Lord Buddha is preserved) due to the resemblance between the two mountains. Hence, it is called Little Adam’s Peak.

“Punchi Sri Pada” is another name for this peak, which stands at 1141 meters high. Little Adam’s Peak draws numerous travelers to Sri Lanka. With an easy hike up the mountain, you can enjoy a panoramic and breathtaking view.

Visiting in the morning when the clouds roll in is priceless. Places like Little Adam’s Peak highlight the beauty and richness of Sri Lanka’s natural destinations. Visitors will find themselves rotating their bodies to take in the outstanding 360-degree views.

  • Diyaluma Falls - Upper Diyaluma Falls is part of the Diyaluma Falls located in Koslanda in the Badulla district.

Distance from Ella – 38.5 km (1 hour 3 minutes)

Trekking to the top of Upper Diyaluma Falls is an adventure and a challenge for the adventurous. The trek passes several waterfalls and natural pools, offering an amazing view at the top, making the challenging hike worth every second. The hike also goes through a rubber estate, where hikers can see the rubber collection process.

  • Nine Arches Bridge - The Nine Arch Bridge (Sinhala: ආරුක්කු නමයේ පාලම), also known as the Bridge in the Sky, is a viaduct bridge in Sri Lanka. It is one of the finest examples of colonial-era railway construction in the country. The bridge’s construction is generally attributed to a local Ceylonese builder, P. K. Appuhami, in consultation with British engineers. The chief designer and project manager of the ‘upcountry railway line of Ceylon’ project was D. J. Wimalasurendra, a distinguished Ceylonese engineer and inventor. The viaduct’s designer was Harold Cuthbert Marwood of the Railway Construction Department of Ceylon Government Railway. The 1923 report titled “Construction of a Concrete Railway Viaduct in Ceylon” by the Engineering Association of Ceylon includes all the records, plans, and drawings.
  • Nil Diya Pokuna - Nildiya Pokuna, located 13.3 km from Ella, offers a great adventurous experience. Legend has it that King Rawana brought Sita from India and kept her in a very comfortable and safe place. Many believe the site is now a ruined underground palace complex filled with blue water. This trip is risky but well worth it. You too can have this experience soon, but please do not damage the place.

History: Legend has it that King Rawana brought Sita from India and kept her in a very comfortable and safe place. Many believe the site is now a ruined underground palace complex filled with blue water.

It is said that King Rawana abducted Goddess Sita and hid in this cave. There were several tunnels under this rock stretching for many miles. The tunnels from the Ravana Ella cave to the cold light of Nuwara Eliya near the Bogoda Rajamaha Viharaya and the Dowa Rajamaha Viharaya can still be seen today.

  • Ella rock day tour - History of Ella Rock
Ella Rock holds significant historical importance in Sri Lanka. It was once a strategic vantage point during the colonial era, providing a panoramic view of the surrounding valleys and tea plantations. The rock has witnessed the passage of time and the region’s transformation.

Ella Rock was an observation point for British administrators and surveyors during the British colonial period. They used the elevated position of the rock to oversee the vast tea estates and monitor the movement of people and goods in the area. The rock’s prominence made it an ideal spot for a comprehensive regional view.

The colonial influence in the area also led to the construction of a railway line passing through Ella. This development opened up the region to more visitors and facilitated the transportation of goods, further contributing to the growth of the local economy.

In addition to its colonial significance, Ella Rock has cultural importance within the local community.

  • Lipton’s Seat - Lipton’s Seat is located in the Haputale mountain range of Badulla in the Uva Province. It sits at an altitude of 1,970 meters, overlooking the lush Dambetanne Tea Estate. With one of the most impressive bird’s-eye viewpoints, it is named after Sir Thomas Lipton, the renowned Scottish aristocrat and tea planter. It is the point from which he used to oversee his flourishing tea empire.

Lipton’s Seat is best visited at sunrise, and if lucky, one can observe four provinces (Uva, Sabaragamuwa, Eastern, and Central), Handapanagala Lake, Chandrika Lake, Udawalawe Lake, Wedihiti Kanda Mountain, and Hambantota Port on the Southern coast. Lipton’s Seat is a very popular tourist attraction that has gained a lot of attention over the past few years for many reasons. Aside from its spectacular view, it is a peaceful place to relax with family and friends and enjoy a hearty picnic.

More than a tourist experience. Sri Lanka is our home now. - I met Shashi in Arugam Bay and I immediately felt he was a really professional guy loving his job. What made me accept his offer was the care and effort he have for his customers. He really cares about us having the best experience from Sri Lanka and local people. He’s also a very gentle person, always asking if anything is ok, if we need something and feedbacks. Because I told him we were a bit upset for the way locals have tried many times to cheat us with “tourist prices” he did his best to obtain local prices for all our next meals and accomodations. That was really helpful. We travelled around the island 3 days with his car and I can tell he’s a very good driver. During the journey we also opened up together, speaking about life and he told us a lot about his life and Sri Lanka. We could have a insider view of the country. We could see Sri Lanka with the eyes of a local (that speaks very good english) and feel the place in a much deeper way. I can tell we actually became friends and the day we had to say goodbye at the airport we felt really grateful and a little sad to say goodbye. When we will come back to this amazing country, we will text him and be guests in his house. He promised us the best homemade rice & curry ever , so can’t wait too much to be there again. Thank you Shashi. See you soon my friend.

Best tour guid/driver - Me and my daughter visited Sri Lanka for 12 days. Sashi picked us up from the airport and took care of us for the all holiday. Showed us the most amazing places in Sigiriya, his home town Ella, Kandy and Mirrisa. We couldn’t have a better person to do that. He even invited us to his home for best curry I have ever had. Highly recommend 😊

Best tour guide in Sri Lanka - I had the privilege and pleasure to travel with Shashi across Sri Lanka. Shashi is a special and gentle soul. From the first second I have met him I felt that I’m taken cared of and in the best hands. Whatever I wished for - he always made sure it happened on the best side and with a smile. I do believe that traveling with him had a huge part in making my Sri Lanka trip such a huge success with memories for a life time. Not only that - the price he asks for his service are very affordable and much better than other offers I received. I am 100% sure that every one who decides to use Shashi services as a guide and driver will be happy and satisfied. Hope to meet you soon again my Sri Lankan brother!! ️

An adventurous day - We had a very adventurous and fun time with our driver cum guide Shashicka. He was punctual and very accommodating. Our driver guide was flexible with the itinerary so that we can do things that we enjoy and maximise our time. We visited Lipton's seat by tuktuk (additional charges for tuktuk and entry fee apply), Diyaluma falls where Shashicka took lots of photos for us in various angles, underground cave and pool, Ravana Falls and finally ran excitedly through the forest path to see the train past 9 arches bridge. A fitting end to end the day. Highly recommended

Superb time in Ella & Udawalawe National Park - Shashi is a superb guide who made my experience with him over 2 days fantastic. On the first day we went up to Liptons Seat for sunrise, then to Nine Arch Bridge, Tea factory tour and tasting, & Ravana falls. It was all custimizable to my liking. Second day was an all inclusive safari to Udawalawe national park with transport to and from Ella. Highly recommended.
