So much to see, not enough time. - We had Lello as our tour guide. He was very passionate about Herculaneum which made the tour very fun. We had a 2 hour tour and there was just not enough time to see everything. We felt a bit rushed and wished we had had more time to enjoy the unique features of the site.

Great but not for long for walk with walking steps. - Great experience but not for those with problems walking steps or a fair distance with slopes. Excellent tour guide and great info as far as we went.... well organised.

Worthwhile visit - Very good experience however would have liked 20mins or 30mins free time to visit shop which would help support the local economy. However the 2hours tour was excellent

Worth it for safety and ease - It was dangerously hot 🥵 and our guide was very careful to keep us in the shade, take breaks in air conditioned buildings, drink water, etc. to keep us safe. It was an incredible experience.

Excellent Herculaneum Tour - We arrived via cruise ship and were met at the port by our friendly guide. Transportation was by passenger van to Herculaneum where we met a second certified archaeological guide who accompanied us through the site. It was absolutely beautiful and fascinating. Far exceeded my expectations. Highly recommended.

Tour was Amazing! Operator communication is so-so… - Our guides were fabulous and very kind to work within our schedule (our group was part of a cruise). The tour operator customer service in general was very confusing and changed our pick up location multiple times. Just be aware too keep up to date. Checking in with them is not very helpful.

Great place to visit but very bad tour experience. - Very late for pick up. Pick up person had very little information to give before the tour . Tour guide was supposed to be in English but spent the majority of the time talking in Spanish to one couple while there were 6 English speaking people and got very little time as more was being given to the Spanish couple. Herculaneum itself is very impressive but would have enjoyed it more if we had not been ignored and rushed.

Thought we would have English only. - We purchased a small group tour in English. We had a small tour group (5) which was perfect. There were 3 different languages between us so we feel sort of like we only received 1/3 of our 2 hours. The guide was amazing: knowledgeable and helpful. He did his best to keep us moving but we had to wait in each stop for the other 2 languages. This was definitely not the fault of the guide! 8

Take the less expensive group tour - We booked the semi-private tour with hotel pickup. We were asked to meet at a hotel 1.4 km from our hotel. We then waited for more than 30 min at the pickup site, another 15 min at Herculaneum for additional travelers to join the group> The archeologist guide seemed to know his stuff but his English is heavily accented and difficult to understand. Also, half the group spoke Spanish so he would translate in one language, then the other. Herculaneum is not a large site and we certainly saw enough to get a good picture, but we only saw about half of the open areas. I would suggest taking the cheaper large bus tour if you don’t want to deal with the train and just pay for the entry on your own, maybe get the audio guide or bring a guide book and save yourselves a couple of hundred euros.
