Additional Information

Explore the best the Basque Country has to offer, and learn to surf on one of the longest beach breaks in Spain. While San Sebastian may have the big name, Zarautz is renowned around these parts as where the surfers go to surf. With a curved beach dynamic that allows both big and small waves to break along the same section of sand, there are plenty of waves to please everyone. Afterwards, join us for lunch either at the beach or at our surf house, a three-story converted farmhouse in the middle of the local national park. If the view from the house hasn’t already taken your breath away, join us on a hike through the Pagoeta to see the greener side of Guipuzkoa that most travellers never get to see. Back at the house we’ll practice yoga with our fully qualified instructor, and spend the rest of the afternoon playing table tennis, relaxing in the sun, kicking it on the balcony or making full use of our in-house bar.

Loved every minute - The most chill, fun time i've had at a hostel. I didn't want to leave. I went on my own and found friends that I'll keep for a long time. Cannot recommended the surf house enough.

Perfect for a solo traveller! - Best experience! The staff were the biggest legends and made sure that everyone was having a good time. I highly recommend getting the unlimited drinks option and I'll most likely be going again soon!

Stop reading this and book the best hostel in the Basque Country already! - The Basque Country is PURE magic and Stoke Travel simply has me under their spell... surfing, yoga, tattoos, djing, grafitti workshops, family bbqs, game nights, and lots and lots of basque cider... this place will forever have a chokehold on my dreams till I'm lucky enough to return again!

Great time and people - The house is amazing with great views over the hills and sea. There's also great hiking trails behind the house. But the best part of the trip were the people at the house!

The place to stay for a great surf and good vibes - Excatly how a surf house should be like. Authentic, original, cool common area. Great staff, adaptable and super sweet. Lovely location to stay and relax away from the rest of the world for as long as you would please. Highly recommend!!!

A nice place suited to beginners - Positives: - Laid back vibe, good social area. - Good, but basic, food with big portion sizes. - Truly unlimited alcohol from taps. - Beautiful location and view in the hills, but a little far from the beach to walk. - Trip to the Cider House is pretty cool, most amazing food (but you do have to pay €40 extra). - Great surfing set up for beginners, especially in the summer when the waves are smaller. Negatives: - Few bits are run down and need refurbishing. E.g. rotten skate ramp in the garden (could be epic if fixed). - Staff are not local or even Spanish and have limited knowledge of the local area regarding surf spots/conditions, things to do and how to get around etc. - Website advertised experienced surf guides, this is not true from what I experienced - they had zero knowledge of the area apart from one beach. - The yoga is ok, but in a very loud room so hard to focus and really get into it. - They only took us to one surf location (Zarautz) regardless of conditions, often timed this trip badly with the tide. - The social plan for the San Sebastián night out fell through completely due to lack of local knowledge. Best to do your own thing here as it’s a lovely city. * Intermeidate/advanced surfers beware: this surf camp is only suitable for beginners or perhaps intermediates if the swell at Zarautz is suitable during your visit. If Zarautz is too big during your stay, surfing whitewater is your only option unless you have transport to waves that can handle the swell. The surf guides have limited experience and transport was not provided to alternative spots. If you are advanced or improving then you need to have a hire car here. We visited during one of the best spring swells of the season and several local waves were absolutely pumping but we were not able to get there and the hostel did not help with this, don’t think they are even aware of the quality of the waves on offer. Even just to watch would have been epic. Super disappointing. Some of the world’s best waves were breaking within 1 hour of the hostel yet we didn’t even get to see them - just had to watch the global surf media report on them. Overall the hostel’s focus is on having a good time and partying rather than focussing on the surfing side, many people like this though!
