Setting Sail to Saona Island

The sun was just beginning to rise as I found myself on a 90-minute drive to Bayahibe Beach, the starting point of my Saona Island adventure. The wait on the beach was filled with chatter and the occasional photo opportunity, though I quickly learned that the promised free photo was more of a souvenir option than a gift. No matter, the real treasure awaited us on the water.

Discovering Playa Palmilla

The speedboat ride to Playa Palmilla was a thrilling experience, the wind whipping through my hair as we sped across the azure waters. Playa Palmilla, with its natural swimming pool, was a sight to behold. The unlimited drinks were a welcome addition, and I found myself lost in the island’s tranquil beauty.

The transition from the speedboat to the catamaran was an unexpected twist, but it added a layer of adventure to the day. Joining another group on the catamaran felt a bit like crashing a party, but the camaraderie of fellow travelers made it a memorable experience. As we sailed back, the sun began to dip below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the water.

The return journey was a mix of reflection and relaxation, the perfect end to a day filled with exploration and discovery. Saona Island had lived up to its reputation, offering a glimpse of the untouched beauty that the Caribbean is known for.
