Setting Sail from Compass Point Marina

The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon as I made my way to Compass Point Marina, the starting point for what promised to be an unforgettable day of exploration. The air was filled with the salty scent of the sea, and the gentle breeze whispered promises of adventure. As a former professional surfer, I’ve spent countless hours riding the waves, but there’s something uniquely thrilling about setting sail to explore the hidden gems of the Virgin Islands.

Upon arrival, I was greeted by the crew of the 34’ Nor-Tech, a sleek and powerful vessel that would be our chariot for the day. The crew’s professionalism and warmth immediately put me at ease, and I knew we were in for a treat. With a quick briefing and a few safety tips, we were off, leaving the marina behind and heading towards the open sea.

Lunch was a delightful affair at Lavango Beach Club, where we indulged in a feast fit for kings. The taco bowl, braised short rib grilled cheese, crab cake sliders, and lobster guacamole were all mouthwateringly delicious, each bite a celebration of the island’s culinary prowess. As we dined, the gentle lapping of the waves provided the perfect soundtrack to our meal.

With our bellies full and spirits high, we set sail once more, this time towards the legendary Jost Van Dyke. Known for its pristine beaches and vibrant beach bars, it was the perfect place to unwind and soak up the sun. A visit to the Soggy Dollar Bar for their famous Painkiller cocktail was a must, and as I sipped the tropical concoction, I couldn’t help but reflect on the day’s adventures.

As the sun began to dip below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the water, we made our way back to Compass Point Marina. The journey back was a time for reflection, a chance to savor the memories of a day well spent.
