Highlights
  • Centro Historico de Evora - From the ancient “Temple of Diana” near the Evora Cathedral, built during the Roman era, you can see the impressive “Agua da Prata” aqueduct. This aqueduct, constructed in the 16th century to transport water, extends from the outskirts of the city, with some of its arches still visible within the city walls.

The Arabs designed the streets and alleys in the 11th and 12th centuries. Evora was once home to several Portuguese kings and a hub for renowned artists, supported by the patronage of the reigning dynasty. The Age of Discoveries brought glory to Evora, fostering the construction of numerous aristocratic mansions and the Jesuit university.

The Church of San Francisco, particularly the Bones Chapel adorned with the skulls and bones of 500 monks, is a major attraction. The chapel’s entrance bears the inscription, “We bones, here we are, for yours we will wait,” drawing thousands of visitors annually.

Free time for lunch.

  • Monsaraz Castle and Walls - Monsaraz is a quaint medieval village with narrow stone streets and charming white-painted houses. Walking through its walls feels like stepping back in time, surrounded by vast plains and the Alqueva, which separates Portugal and Spain.
  • Ervideira - Visit and tasting at a local winery. Alentejo wine has a unique profile, despite the region’s hot and dry climate, which necessitates adding water to the vines. The sunny conditions allow for perfect grape maturation.

This mostly flat region produces soft, slightly acidic white wines with tropical fruit aromas, and full-bodied red wines rich in tannins with wild and red fruit aromas.

Our tour includes a visit to one of these wineries for a tasting session, with the specific winery chosen based on availability, often Ervideira among others.
